So, because it works, makes it smart? Trucking is a business. Changing oil at a laughable 15k interval is a stupid business decision. Modern oils in modern engines are designed to last 75,000 miles. Doing it 5 times as frequent isn't doing anything but costing money and wasting resources that some people can't even find. Yes, engine oil supply is still tight.
-
I’ve done 45,000 miles so far this year, your telling me I shouldn’t of changed my oil at all?
i shoot for 10k but usually winds up being closer to 13-15k by the time I actually get to it…
oil and grease is cheap, and a write offlester Thanks this. -
According to the engine manual on most trucks you would be correct once a year or $75,000 MI.
-
You're probably using non synthetic oil though. When he's talking 75k miles here it's probably because guy is using full synthetic.
-
I don't believe it says synthetic oil in the engine manual. I do however run synthetic, it might not even be necessary but it makes me feel good LOL and the price difference is only a few bucks a gallon

You don’t have a newer engine. So what he’s saying doesn’t apply.
-
How come this kind of "science" is okay for you, but not okay for them?Tug Toy, Last Call and Bigtruckdrivah Thank this.
-
New engines don’t require synthetic for extended drains. Detroit and Paccar have bypass filtration. I’m not sure about Volvo or what the interval is on the X15 Cummins.scoobertdoo Thanks this.

I use it because it has less ash to clog the systems.
