I was terminated in sept of 06 by Knight only being with them for a month. I had put a scratch on a trailer and no claim report was made second in the dark morning hours I had went into a water treatment plant and was getting turned around when my trailer caught a 1/2 inch round pipe and took down about 4 feet of it. So I was let go. Knight told me when I get more experience to come back(not that I would anyway). I asked safety if I would have any problems finding another job and he told me no, I have two incidents. Since September I have been unable to find a company that would take me. I was new and have applied to over 60 companies and they are interested in me but when they talk to Knight I never hear from them again. The 2 incidents are not on my DAC report. So what is causing companies to push me away? How long will I have to put Knight down. Since they are the problem I have in getting a job. I have told companies to put me with a trainer and have tried everything I can think of to get a job, nothing is working. Tired of being a cashier. Is there any hope for me getting back out on the road again?
Any Advice for Me Will be grateful!

Was knight your 1st driving job? If not, how much experince do you have total? Are you leting the cos know about the two damaged trls brfore they talk to knight?
If the cos you are applying for dosent know anythig about the trls until they talk to knight, then it makes you look dishonest!!
What size cos are you applying to? Your chances are alot better for geting hired onto a larger co more so than a smaller/local one(swift, schinder, jb hunt, ect.).
If the lack of exp. and the two trls are your only downfalls, then you shouldnt have a problem geting on with one of these cos. They wont look at it as such a big deal if you are honest with them. BUT U HAVE TO BE UP FRONT WITH THEM!!!!!
You will most likely have to go out with a trainer for 2-6 wks, more so for the lack of exp. than anything else. And if you can stick it out for a couple of years(because even though after one year you could still get most jobs, some of the better cos dont like job hopers) and keep your safety and driving record clean, then you shouldnt have a problem geting any job you want!!!
Hope this helps.
God bless & Good luck!!! -
Thank you for your advice. When I do fill out application I do put down the 2 incidents with Knight. And when they call and want to know I tell them what happened and it is also listed on my application. Yes, I am new. I have or had about 9 months experience. I just don't know why I can't get hired. I worked for US Xpress 5.5 months left because my father was ill and had to help mom around the house. I then went with knight(big mistake) And this is where the hammer landed. I have been looking for employment since sept 06. I got stuck working at a gas station in Dec because my town is very poor on jobs. I am going to apply for a company called TETON Transportation in Knoxville TN after I get the accident cleared to a non-preventable I had with us xpress(guy hit me and I won.-but still shows up as a preventable accident) Then winter leaves me I will give this company a try. They allow 5 incidents, so maybe I will have a shot.Do you know anything about them? Thanks for you help, God Bless and be Safe

Your problem seems to be the accident that is showing up as preventable. Are you putting that on your application also? I had an incident with USX that wasn't put on my dac. I don't put it on my applications. Not quite sure why you posted your question in the owner operator section.

this is part of the problem.............the "incident" as the safety people say..........
is it REALLY an incident, or an ACCIDENT.....?????
you need an ABSOLUTE, DEFINITIVE ANSWER from Knight...........
personally, i would list them as accidents on ALL applications (you say you applied at 60 companies...?? that's nearly hard to believe, as somehow at least 1 company would have hired you by now, the percentages are on your side for that incredible amount of applications).............
you only have 1 month driving experience, so i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you go back to your driving school for a "refresher course", usually this is no charge since you are a graduate, and i hope you payments on the loan are up to date as well.
then, get the school to type up a nice letter on school staionary that you did indeed go and "refresh your skills"...........
this MAY help you get started again.................
the bottom line here can be: TO BE CAREFULL in your driving/backing up/ and turning around. the companies are looking to "weed-out" inept student drivers real quick................... -
Have you thought about going back to US Xpress? I think that they would most likely hire you back(as long as you had an ok record with them, left on good terms, ect).
Did you go through USXs driving school or vo-tech? if you went through school with USX and didnt finish out your contract with them, thats a big red flag to carriers. But if thats the case, all the more likely they would be to hire you back.
Even if you didnt like working for them, you could go back for a mininum of 6 months. Then you should be able to get hired on somewere else without too much trouble.
God bless and good luck, -
Prodriver, I have about 9mths exp. Knight told me when they let me go they would be listed as incidents. I will be getting a copy of my dac to know for sure what is on it. But 60 companies Yes. I would bet a thousand dollars on it and could give you names & who I spoke too. So I don't know where things are going wrong. But thanks for the help. Be safe

I posted here because who would know better than an owner op. Might as well have give them a try. Have a good one.

Hightech, Yes, tried us xpress but with what happened with knight they said that I'd have to wait one year after being let go before they could consider me for hire. Thanks anyway, God Bless.

Get a copy of your driving record and your DAC report then you can go from there. I understand their point, little experience and 2 mishaps.
You must have put more than a "scratch" on the trailer for them to say anything or even know. Trailers are always bumped around. Did they have to repair it after your "scratched"?
With that said just call the companies you are interested in and explain things and see what happens.
