Seems to me that anyone hanging out in a truckstop trying to peddle their services most likely is not legit. I could see having a tent at a truck show or some big event, but not at a truck stop. Sounds shady as He!! to me.

Am I the only one having trouble figuring out what jesslbt1985 is trying to say? I tried to read her long post a few times and still don't understand it. (not to mention it is one long run on sentence). Plus, I find it hard to believe that a CHP officer lost his badge over one supposed bad ticket.

That makes two of us. Gave me a headache trying to understand it.

I was just in the Youngstown TA, I was doing laundry and was approached by one of their salesmen, a kid about 20 years old, who had his podium set up next to the change machine in the game room. I told him I wasn't interested, but he kept on talking, I say, look, give me some pamphlets, I'll look it over, and if I'm interested, I'll give you a call. So he breaks out an envelope full of pamphlets, pulls out an application, starts asking me for my name, address, etc, I give it all to him, up until he asks me for my social security number. So then he asks me for my credit card number, and I'm like, hell no dude, and I'm not signing that application either. He kept telling me if I give him all the info, sign the application, he will have everything he needs to start the service IF i decide to call him. I didn't just fall off a turnip truck. I'm not giving him my credit card number and sign underneath where it clearly says "I AGREE TO PAY..." So, he end up yanking the envelope full of pamphlets away from me, and says "if your not going to give me this info, giving you this envelope is pointless." I said fine, and I yanked all three copies of his application with the little bit of the personal info he did manage to pry out of me, and told him I'll be taking this then. I don't know if their service is legit, I don't care. This fast talking kid reminded me of the three card monte guys that used to set up on the sidewalk back home when I was growing up.
Why TA lets these guys in their stores is beyond me. TA must be getting a kickback on this scam. -
MrMustard, First of all, theres obviously not much oversight on these guys, so what you're complaining about is really THAT kid, not the company. However, I have no idea what they tell them in training.
Also, i had one tell me that they get paid $100 per person that signs up. Whenever you're commission based, you're going to have people like that. period.
The stickers are useful. Makes cops tend to give you warnings instead of tickets.
I gave the info one time. I was planing on getting it, didnt have the money at the moment but the guy talked me into filling out the same application and signing it. However, he didnt even ask me to fill out the credit card bit. Told me he'd call me in a couple weeks, which he did, to get the info from me. That makes a lot moer sense than your guy. he was definitely pulling something on you.
Now, he gave me everything including the stickers. Have one on my truck and one on my license.
but heres the cool part....when i get harrased by them, i say, oh, im already a member. usually i talk to them for a few minutes, but they often act like im b-s-ing them. so i pull my license out, SEE IM A MEMBER!!! lol lol lol -
TVC uses local lawyers. They have local lawyers everywhere.
However, how do they have such a large amount of lawyers? I kind of wonder if they just use google when they need em.
What about....Verizon Wireless? One time i was just lookin at some phones at the TA in Gary and next thing i know, some dude is trying to convince me to pay $500 in cancellation fees to my current company just to come to them for no reason whatsoever. I hate these people.
What about TAB bank?
What about Detroit diesel? they have posters about the DD15 on all the truckstop walls. -
I have been approached by these salesmen at a few different T/A's in the past few months. I am new to driving so I just gave them the truth about me being so broke that i eat mainly pb&j all week and they leave me alone. i do appreciate the info on this subject i think I'll keep using my pb&j line as long as i can.

$50 a month is just a little too pricey for my tastes. I've been out here ten years, never have gotten a ticket. I've been pulled over for speeding numerous times, but never for more than 5-9 mph over. Every time this has ever happened to me I ended up with a level 3 inspection and a warning.
That kid's pushiness really turned me off on this company. If I were in the market for such a service, there is no way I would just sign up without doing some research on my own about it first. -
I know. I agree. alot of their sales people are like that. But some are very nice and cool friendly people.
By the way, theres a TVC girl at the Detroiter in Woodhaven, MI exit 32 on i-75 who is really cool.
But yeah, you'd be better off to just save $50 a month in a savings account for legal. it's like $600 a year....
