I finally took some time off to just hang out around the house, play baseball with my son and see my beautiful wife Jill. I spent 6 days at home with my family and it was nice.
It was time to hit the road so I snagged a load of Maxx-D Trailers from Summer, TX to Chichester, NH. Drove to Jackson, TN and shut it down for the night a few hours ago. This is where something happened to me that I have never encountered before.
So, I pose a question and a piece of advice for the newer drivers here.
I parked here at the Loves in Jackson but I needed to backtrack to the T/A to buy something from the shop for my truck. Instead of losing my parking spot I unhook and lock up my trailer like I normally do. I head off to the T/A to buy a mirror and grab some food while I'm out. I'm gone from the Loves and my trailer for about 2 hours. I pull back in the parking lot about 30 minutes ago to find a newer Mack backed up to my trailer. The truck was running and the curtains were shut. There was a large condensation puddle under the truck so he had been in front of my trailer for some time. I'm at a loss for words as I try to fathom who this driver is and how his brazen attitude allows him to make decisions like this. I knock on the door and nobody answers. No movement whatsoever. I didn't see the cab rock like someone was moving around inside. Well, crap. I knock again but this time with door-denting force. I see movement because the cab rocked around but still no one is opening the curtains to see what is going on. Well, time to get the chains off of the headache rack and get tied up. I hook up the chains to the back of my truck and I give the driver one more chance to answer before I tow this thing out of my way. I knock again and again and again until finally I see the driver open the curtains. He looks at me and says "Yeah"? I told him the tow truck was moments away from removing his truck. He asks "why"? He actually asked "why". I told him that he was backed up to a trailer that is not his. He then proceeded to stare at me without saying anything. I told him he was parked in front of my trailer and I needed my spot back so I could hook up to my trailer and he said he was parked for the night and couldn't move. I told him that was okay because if I walk back to my truck I am dragging his truck out of my way. I gave him the choice and he finally moved his dam truck out of my way.
So, my question for the masses. Have you ever had another bobtail back up to your trailer while you were gone running errands? If so, did the driver act like you were in the wrong and assume that the spot was theirs even with your trailer dollied in the spot?
I couldn't believe this was the situation. How in the "H-E"- double - hockey sticks does this driver think this is okay to do? What In the world is happening? Where is the common driver courtesy for your fellow driver? The way this driver looked at me and spoke to me you could tell I was inconveniencing him as he felt like he found the spot to park in.
Sorry this rant turned out to be so long. My advice for the younger, less experienced drivers is this...
Please have respect for yourself and your fellow drivers and help me bring back that level of courtesy to the trucking industry that my Dad got to experience in the late 1970's and the 1980's and part of the early 1990's.

That's completely unacceptable move on that bobtail part, far as I see it. Shoot, he's a bobtail. Easy enough to get creative & find somewhere acceptable to shut it down..
That's out & out stupidity..
Maybe I'm just a big baby, but I refuse to park in such a way that would inconvenience other trucks, or cars for that matter. I never, ever want to have my door knocked. I'd be completely embarrassed..
I will say this. You seem like decent folk. But good God brother, ya seem a magnet for weird stuff happening to you on the road!! Lol
Maybe irrelevant, but was this Mack bobtail operator of the foriegn variety..?Dadetrucking305, DeereRunner97, Nostalgic and 9 others Thank this. -

In the Mack's defense, how many times have you seen dropped trailers and when you leave the next morning they are still there?DeereRunner97, Nostalgic, CAXPT and 5 others Thank this.

Had a 5 core too. When I built my engine, I upgraded to a bigger unit. Works great, except in driving during the winter.DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker, CAXPT and 4 others Thank this.

1st. He can move on PC. Make a note on the remark field and move yourself.
2nd. The lack of courtesy found on the road these days is amazing. I am surprised that we don't hear of more truck on truck road rage.
3rd. That bobtail was playing the odds. He knew Love's wasn't going to get involved. He figured he would be gone before you get back sometime in the AM. And since it is private property the police were not going to respond to your calls. I -think- that had you called the local tow truck, they would of said they could not hook to that truck without the owners or law enforcement directive.
So yes, he was counting on being parked in front of your trailer for a while.
Is he a jerk? Yes. But unless you are willing to go to jail over his beat down, he will continue with this behavior.DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker, CAXPT and 5 others Thank this. -
What a douche.
Don't know if it'd work but could you have pulled the trailer up a few feet? Make it so there wouldn't be enough room to fit a truck in front of the trailer?DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker, Nostalgic and 7 others Thank this. -
There it is. The majority of your daily interactions that you can have with the Dumb and Dumber fat smelly sidewalk sissy steering officially braindead steeringwheelholder crowd will be there. You must have had one of those coveted fatboy parking spots. How dare you deny a fatboy his coveted spot!DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker, Nostalgic and 7 others Thank this.
