I got a DVT last Jan. that almost killed me. Docs said it was a very large clot that went into my lungs. Took the ambulance ride to hospital
and they showed me the strip that said i stopped breathing and my heart
stopped for approx 45 second. My O2 sats were below 60% at the
time. To much "iron butt " driving and not enough exercise. Now i have
to take Warfarin to thin my blood....also had a very bad cold at the time and already had problems breathing....No more "iron butt"
for me...looks like a fire drill around my truck every 3 hrs...

Lets be realistic about this...you need to work on your heath. The majority of people even outside this industry have to sit more then 4 hours a day. The the best answer is to control diet and exercise to lower risk factors.

Burgs, spoken like a true NON-TRUCKER. True we need to make the effort but "people outside the industry" are not
incased in a 6 ton office traveling 65 mph down an interstate
They have a much easier time moving around and their pay check is not affected by frequent stops.....

I agree but common sense tells me to move after sitting 3.5- 4 hours. I drink plenty of water of too as that prevents diabetes and other health issue. Now one issue of sitting down is you like to eat. I try to either sit somewhere else besides the drivers seat while eating or sit in the berth with a towel. Personally, I think this study is aimed at couch potatoes though CDL holders do count sometimes. :biggrin_2559:

As much as I'm always at the computer I'm always up. I tell ya one thing I use to do when I was little but don't do as much anymore is run around my room listening to music just thinking in my own little world. I must say it sure made my lungs a lot stronger and contributed to me outgrowing my asthma. I'll never outgrow my lung disorder but it makes my lungs healthier and makes me healthier in general. I just got to work on my diet. I try to drink water as much as I can but I also drink coffee, orange juice, and Gatorade as well. I also eat a lot of fruit so that helps too. I rarely drink soda anymore unless I'm craving it maybe a 6 pack every other month. Eating healthy can be done, it's not difficult but it's like exercising, you got to stick with it and be motivated to do it.

Just because the guy in the office has more freedom to move around when they feel like it doesn't mean you can't stop for 10 minutes to walk around a rest stop every 3 hours. That is 30 minutes a driving day and if you can't see the value in preserving your health for what would equal $13 a day at $.40 per mile...and we know you don't make that in this industry...then I would say you have issues. That is like a stay at home mom complaining that its not their fault they are fat...because heaven knows they can't spare 30 minutes to do something physical, and those little babies are just forcing the junk food right down their throats all day...RIGHT?

As long as they are forcing us to get all of our driving time done in the first 14 hours of our work day, then we tend to not take breaks. I myself try to get all of my 11 hours in each day, Not much time to walk or run around the truck.

I was drinkin too much NOS energy drink and coffe and my kidneys started achin, so just one cup of joe in the morning and water. You have to drink plenty of water, and not smoke, cause it will send you back to Jesus early. I was at the T/A in Wy exit 30 or so you guys know the one Fort Bridger. Huge parkin lot half way decent food, only downside is that one has the water saver shower heads that peal your skin off. One fella was on the fuel line I was listen on the radio everyone hem and haw how long he sittin there. Fella plum died right in his seat. When the ambulance crew come, poor fella had a cigarette burned down to his fingers, he enjoyed his last smoke on the way out.
