sorry for the delay in reply. Family member had a health scare so I’ve been with them for a while in hospital while they recovered. All is good now. again, sorry for the delay.

CRE and Werner go through newbies like nobody's business. Over half of all drivers at both companies have been with the company less than 90 days, or less than 6 months. I forget which it is. Your chances of staying in the industry and making it for multiple years comes from finding which company matches what you need to be successful. Trucking companies vary tremendously in working conditions. A company hiring/firing THOUSANDS of drivers every years will treat you like a Kleenex. There is no safety in working for an average company, getting average pay, and average working conditions. Currently 80-90% of new CDL drivers leave the industry before completing 12 months work. Imagine your financial situation now. Now imagine that same situation except now you owe the trucking company for CDL school because you didn't stay 12 months.

There are a few ways to enter the industry. There is no reason to limit your chopice to the trucking companies that have "free" CDL training. Many companies will reimburse you for CDL school. Look for a good driving job, and then decide about the best way to get CDL school. I had no money to my name when I went to CDL school. But I had a guarantee, if I passed CDL school, I would have a job with a company with tuition reimbursement. The CDL school set me up with a company that loaned me money for CDL school and my first employer gave me enough TR each week or month I could repay my CDL loan.

I have looked over that post, and have tried a few things like Signing up for the WorkForce grants prior to making my post. I originally signed up for that at the beginning of August. It’s towards the end of September and I haven’t seen or heard anything from them. I believe it’s because we are towards the end of their funding cycle and are waiting for more funds from the gov.

Guy, you want flatbed or reefer talk to Swift. They train for both w/a loan agreement for 2 years. 1 year you pay in, the 2nd year they pay into you.

They haul tomatoes. Tomato season is about over for the year. Maybe next year they can try it.

Estes and Yellow both have dock to driver type programs. At Yellow they pay you $17.50 a hour to train at CDl school then you get bumped up to almost full rate once you graduate. LTL will be a little slow here soon so if you are going to do this route don’t delay. They have schools in Indianapolis so you can train and sleep in your own bed.

Fiscal Year runs from Oct. 1st to Sep. 30th.
Funding should be available Oct. 1st.

Maverick Transportation has cdl school for flatbed.
My understanding is "glass division" makes the most money.
