    Yeah, the one day orientation is unusual as far as other OTR companies go, but there really isn't a whole lot more to be covered as we don't generally touch the tanks except from climbing up to check top seals.

    The one thing I missed was a better explanation of the fueling process, numbers to enter etc, but a quick phone call straightened that out when I got stuck at the pump.

    Tall Mike and Speed_Drums Thank this.

    Orientation was a couple days, one day and I'd seen enough went home.
    Hopefully for you and the others things have improved since then.

    @Redtwin --

    How does Indian River handle bad weather and/or bad road conditions?

    Can you...as the driver....exercise "stop work authority"....and shut down prior to getting into bad conditions?

    Or do they instead expect you to keep on keeping on (the load is really more important than the driver....$$$$$)?

    I'm not sure what it was like back then as I've only been here a couple years.

    About the only objectionable issue I observed was not getting a straight answer on detention pay. I later found out it is almost nonexistent and there wasn't a set rate of pay so that's why there was no straight answer.

    Oh, and the Marco's pizza for lunch left much to be desired.

    Haven't come across that personally while loaded and haven't heard of any drivers being pressured to continue if they didn't feel safe.

    There was one instance where PA had empty commercial vehicle restrictions and there were a bunch of incoming ice storm warnings. I was given a load which I refused as I wasn't about to leave the safety of the terminal when the weather was shaping up to be that nasty. I didn't hear anything more about my refusal and if that ticked anyone off I didn't notice as far as retaliatory rubbish loads.

    Also you aren't required to chain up which I was sure to get clarified when I first started as that is not something I have any intention of doing if roads get bad enough.
