A lot of people come to the trucking industry after having been in an unrelated profession. A lot of drivers also move on to other other careers after being in trucking. What's your story? Which of your professions are you more satisfied with?

I was an Air Force pilot for 8 years, medically retired. Next was a state trooper for 8 years, was shot and medically retired. Then around 2003 I started to drive a truck for a living.

I was a department manager overseeing 50 + computer technicians in a 200,00 SQ FT warehouse. The job lasted 12 years but eventually was no longer needed when those pesky kids with degrees start to look better than you.:biggrin_2553:

school student for about 10 1/2 years.

One of Uncle Sam's Missgiuded Children force recon for close to 4 years .

Truck driver for the rest so far and don't see that changing anytime soon !

Unless of course you know someone looking for an old fat tired x-force recon for a boy toy.
Then I might be willing to toy with the idea of parking my old Marmon for awhile !!!:biggrin_25524:

Oh ya I forgot I have been my MOMMA'S baby boy for 49 years !!!

I was a pastor primarily to youth and children. Pastoring adults did me in. LOL
Trucking has been a refuge for me. From school to my current fleet it has been edifying and rebuilt my personal self esteem which had taken a huge beating. It's enabled my husband and I to rebuild finances, be together and allowed us to be with our grandchildren.

Yes, at times I miss ministry....I miss the teens and the children. I miss the sense of purpose. But I do not believe I will ever return to organized ministry.

    I like driving my truck.

well i worked in a music store for 15 years. i worked on electronic organs, guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards. i also delivered pianos and organs. i sold organs, pianos, sheet and book music, accessories, guitars, amps and so on. also did some auto mechanic work. and i worked with an alcohol funny car team for 4 years.
after being in a truck for 15.5 years, and being unemployed since june 12th, i am now driving a 1 ton dually diesel pick up and hauling travel trailers. these are tag and fith wheel trailers. it is slow right now, but should pick up soon.
i still miss being over the road, but so far no one wants me.
so i am limited to what i can get.

forgot to add, i also ran sound for a local rock band for 4 years. that was fun, watching people get drunk at the bars.
also out performing other local bands. 82 to 86 for that.
i also drove the bus that we had for our equipment.
