Big difference between the peanut cover and a front structure gasket. Peanut cover sits over cam gear, and the cover is attached to the front structure. Front structure is where the block mates to the enclosure of all the gear train. You're leaking from the fan hub bolts, because that is the easiest route for oil to follow. Band aid fix is to remove studs, slather em up with permatex, and reinstall. Real fix is new front structure gasket

Front structure reseal is not usually included in a regular in frame overhaul. At least 20 hours of labor and a gasket kit. With the new inflation adjusted math I would probably expect to be charged 30 hrs for the job.

Oxbow, spsauerland and lester Thank this.

Cat wants 35 hrs. 3 years ago i replaced fun hub. Before and after it didnt leak any oil till local KW did inframe. Are you talking about these two studs in my pics. What about two bolt right under stuts and 3 above studs ?
Also what that bolt that sitts inside that hole is for ?? Does that bolt goes into the front on head ??
If that bolt holds front gear cover to the head, maybe KW didnt see it and thats why they had hard time pulling head off

If you live near Versailles .... check out how much Rock Valley Truck Repair would want to do your front structure. Very very very knowledgeable and skilled shop.

Platinum overhaul doesn't include front structure kit and would have been extra cost but less labor because easier to do during overhaul. Clean it up and find/ verify actual leak start point, saves a lot of grief. I'd replace the viscous damper if older.

I was advised by cat that the front cover was not included in the Platinum. I had the same issue, oil leaking from behind the fan. Had the front cover done and they found one of the gear bearings cracked. 20220409_121237.jpg

That is what is in kit according to Caterpillar, not online picture. Gasket kits are SCH (single cylinder head), SFI (single fuel injector), and CL (central, lower). No front structure kit. Screenshot_20220921-165739.png

I'm not arguing if that gasket is in your picture, I am saying that gasket is not in 20R7821 kit from Caterpillar. If you want that gasket you can buy it individually or buy the front structure kit that contains about 20 P/N's of o-rings, gaskets, sealing washers, and crankshaft seal kit. I get all this information from Cat SIS 2.0, Cat TMI, and years of experience.
