If you were buying a truck in the 30000 to 40000 range. What would you buy and why? I have that much saved just for the truck.

If it was me i would try and find something with low miles and stay away from the fleet speced trucks a pete 379 or w900 kenworth is my personal prefrence with a 13 or 18 and 460hp or more and something with history there are some real good deals on low milage used trucks right now some will say go areo for fuel milage but i get in the 6s with my long hood 379 with flat top at 275wb basicaly get what your happy with because if ya dont like what you have to drive every day it makes for a bad job and get the specs that are best for your hauling.

I really don't care what kind of truck I run as long as I'm not crammed into the steering wheel and uncomfortable....Hint hint Peterbilt. I could careless about looking good but comfort is more important to me.

Why stay away from fleet trucks?

I know some will flame me but try Ryder used fleet sales as they have all the records for that vehicle you are looking at. Personal truck I like: A Freightliner Century or Columbia with a Detroit 515 is a good bet as they get good fuel economy and have sufficient room in them.

The only people who will flame you are the large car billy big riggers. :biggrin_25523: I've heard great things about Ryder and their program. Coming from someone who is getting a management degree it makes sense. In order to be profitable you got to run your company like a business whether your an owner operator or run a small fleet. Looking cool is nice and all but it won't pay the bills. Honestly I like to see aerodynamic trucks with a little chrome on them but not too much. You got to have smart business sense in ANY business you run whether it's trucking or not.

Sure Freightliner's are nice but I prefer an International myself. At least International stayed with the mirror mount cb setup unlike Freightliner who went to the sleeper mounted setup which I don't like.

    Double L,

They are about the only ones I would trust as they keep all maintenance records. Now their trucks are pure basic ones but I have found some good ones at a good price. Most have FRO15210C trannies and either a 470/515 detroit or a C13/C15 cat.
