    Hi gang,

    Relocated and checking out new liquid chemical hauling options. Common carriers include Oakley, QC, MC Tank, Chemical South, Venezia, Dana, Ewell, John N. John, Kenan and others. Private carriers are C&S Chemicals, Evoqua...maybe others. Anybody got any recommendations? Making good money now driving a red truck with a funny Dutch-sounding name in the side. Seeking more home time without a cut in pay.

    Would like to get home every 7 days for 48 hours, with occasional longer stays out if necessary. 90k+ if possible.

    I didn't ask this so much for people to do my job search for me. Mainly want to hear any positive or negative feedback from folks who may have worked in this region.

    Hauling fuel locally can pay well and offer more home time. Also LTL can offer the same.

    @Leviathan Tube --

    I haul fuel in Georgia, over nearer Dothan, AL and Tallahassee, FL.

    You can make about $90k (or better) with fuel, and be home DAILY....if you go with:

    Pilot/Flying J
    Love's
    Frontier Tank Lines

    Frontier wants at least 2 years of fuel-hauling experience. I don't know if they're currently hiring in your area.

    AGP gas (Chinatown's offer, above) is an excellent suggestion--I just can't see/find where there are any opportunities with them in east Georgia (that link given above doesn't show specific job opportunities at all).

    LTL work is great money, and home daily, but in many cases you have to work your way up a seniority ladder to get the better runs/schedules and thus the good money. Also--it's pulling boxes and bumping docks. The work there can also be pretty monotonous (the exact same linehaul run....day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day........... :sleepy2:).

    Other threads here are indicating that LTL work is slowing down now. Fuel hauling for the third-party carriers has slowed down, as well. I think if you went with a private fuel carrier, the work would be much more consistent, however.

    Avoid/stay away from Circle K. Yes, it's a private fleet. But you don't want it. Trust me on this one.

    In your list of tanker carriers above, you left out Transwood. You might check them out for opportunities in your area. @haz-matguru has recommended them before/elsewhere. I have no experience with them.

    Let me throw out a few specific questions:

    Oakley has been heavily advertising big dollar figures. However, over the years, whenever I find myself at a tank wash that Oakley uses, I seem to see a lot of their guys sitting around. Can anybody tell me if they stay busy out of the Savannah terminal? As an aside, the tank wash they use in Savannah is so undersized for the number of trucks that use it. It might drive me crazy!
    Kenan Specialty Products is advertising a dedicated gig out of Savannah at 90 cents a mile. Intriguing, but we don't know how long it will last. Anybody have experience with them?

    Chemical South Transport seems to be one of the few companies actually based in Savannah, but the pay they advertise seems underwhelming. They do advertise a rider and pet program, which is unusual in the chemical tanker industry...



    I've always heard that working for a private carrier is better than working for a common carrier. Has anybody heard anything about C&S Chemicals?

    Don't know what the pay is...don't know what the hometime is....but I would guess it's probably pretty good (being cryogenic work with a supplier).
