I drive a 2016 Peterbilt Mixer Truck. I have been at the job for about 2 months as a new driver, my first trucking driving job. I keep forgetting to get the specs of this truck. I think it might be a 14.9L L6 DIESEL....389?

Today I checked the oil for the first time after driving it for a week, and no oil registered on this dip stick. This is an "old" truck with 330K miles on it, but it drives great. I asked around and they said just wait until Monday to put oil in it. How much oil would you add to this truck that does not register on the dip stick? Thx

I wanted to add that I have only been driving this specific truck for a few days.

    Probably has 10-12 gallon capacity.
Our guys overfill all the time because they check when it's hot on the post trip.
If it's cold put a half to 1 gallon and let it drain to sump then check.

That is when I checked it, when it was hot on the post trip. Will check again Monday AM before starting. Everybody calls it old but it is a great truck haha.

Check before you add any as they might be doing a service on it over the weekend.

Add as much as is required to put the oil level back in the range.

Impossible to predict how much is needed. For all we know there could only be 2 gallons in there :dontknow:

    Wait?!?

It took you a WEEK to check the oil?

AND you don't know what engine you have in the truck?

Sorry dude, get oil in the engine, don't drive it if it isn't on the stick, you may have nothing in the sump and frying the bearings.

CHECK the ****** oil every time you start your work day as a driver. DO a proper pre-trip and keep a note on what you are told when you find something wrong.

    WHY?

Because when you have that accident, and you have to deal with the lawyers because the company AND YOU are being sued, you can point to the fact the company would not maintain the truck as they should or as you want them to in order to keep it SAFE!!

PROTECT YOURSELF BEFORE THE COMPANY BY DOING YOUR BEST BY KEEPING THE TRUCK AS SAFE AND OPERATIONAL AS POSSIBLE

PRE-TRIPS, BASIC MAINTENANCE AND DOCUMENTING DEFECTS HELPS YOU PROTECT YOUR CDL!

OH and I would never work for a company that took that poor care of the trucks.

I am just doing what everybody else there is doing. A mechanic inspects the trucks every month or two I think but I agree the oil should be checked far more often.

Checking fluids should be part of the daily pre trip.

Everybody else there aren't even achieving the bare minimum by the sounds of it.
