I am new to the truck game currently own newer Cascadia for my company (OTR) and am learning the "dirt game" as I call it running end dumps/dump trucks for a guy teaching me that business.
Just curious
What is some peoples favorite trucks or most dependable truck?
Especially day cabs for running end dumps. I am personally a fan of new Macks as thats what I have experience with.
I don't get to hear much about older trucks in my circle, so please anyone with older truck suggestion leave a comment as I like to look at stuff on the internet.

If staying local get an old R model or superliner/CL 700. Even the the CHs from the 90s are super tough.
Stay away from 98 and up. That's when Mack stopped making good trucks in my book. The 93 we have is just all around a better built truck than our 99. Volvo had their dirty hands in Mack by then.singlescrewshaker, W923, Coffey and 1 other person Thank this. -
What older engines does everyone like? I hear about Cats and Detroit but really know much with the older stuff.

They only make 2 CAT and all them others. Like anything not taken care of they are ####....cobbled together they are ####. Something to remember you can have 3 things in life, cheap easy and good. You cannot however have all 3 at once. My point is when you hear cheap and easy to work on it isn’t gonna be good
dirthaller, Coffey and jbthumper Thank this. -
I can relate to that, just curious what cat engines were good?
I mainly just want to be able to look at stuff online and start chasing rabbit holes vs purchase one now to work. They fascinate me.
Plus I just drive the truck my company assigns me now as I’m there to gain experience vs make money. Which at the moment is a 2018 Mack
or maybe I should say what would be some fun older trucks to drive for this task?Last edited: Sep 25, 2022
Coffey Thanks this. -
3406B, C, E and C-15 are gonna be the most popular. The C-15 is still a 3400 series block. The B and C are the most misunderstood. You better have a guy that knows his sheet on one of those

For older trucks in your business l series fords were very popular around here. I have 2 and other than having to work on the back of the engine through the doghouse I really can’t say much bad other than cab parts are somewhat troublesome to get at this point.
Mack is also a popular truck for this line of work but need to be a true Mack…before volvo ruined them. I don’t like being stuck with the Mack dealer for parts though.
the truth of it is that the name on the hood has little to do with it….how it was speced is what matters.wore out Thanks this. -
Kenworth t800 hands down. Macks are good but almost anything for the truck is dealer only.
