Iam getting ready to start my training for my CDL training in 8 days and then suppose to go to work for PAM.I just started reading post on this sight today. Most of the things i have read about PAM are negative.I dont know if i should stick with this company to start out or not.A few of the posts i read say its a good place to start out in the trucking industry. If anyone could give me any advice i would appreciate it.

    Thanks

Buull, I'm a wannabe so you have to be cautious about anything I say but I've really been taking a hard look at SAFESTAT Scores and ISS-D Recommendations lately as I research carriers. So, for what it's worth,

    PAM looks like this:
[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Summary of Safety Evaluation Areas (SEAs)
    Deficient
    SEAs
    are those
    ( >= 75 ) [IMG]

    And this:

    Inspection Selection System (ISS-D) Recommendation*
    (As of January 22, 2010)
    Carrier Name: PAM TRANSPORT INC
    US DOT #: 179752 MC #: 150496
    ISS Inspection Value:38
    ISS Recommendation:PASS
    Basis for Recommendation:Safety

If you look at their SAFESTAT History, they seem to be fairly consistent across categories and across time. They maintained this consistency even after a huge increase in their fleet size. My guess is they were selective when they hired new drivers for the new equipment. I don't know why their fleet increased so dramatically, maybe another member can tell you.

    Baack and KCJ Thank this.

I agree, just pick a starter company that fits you best and remember...

    1) You are paying your dues and getting that 1 year OTR under your belt

    2) As long as you come into this thing knowing that you won't get rich and use common sense, then you will be ok!

If you are going to a good CDL school, chances are you will hear many recruiters from various trucking companies.Listen to all of them very carefully then make up your mind where you want to hire on.They will all try to paint a rosy picture, but read between the lines.
