I made last year with them 235k gross over 100k all miles I drove. Very easy stuff. Mostly worked the load board and took maybe 6-7 week contracts. I take a lot of time off racing and traveling 2 or so long weekends a month. Works great for me. Was home every other day as well if not more.

Old post but super relevant for myself getting a box truck and wanting to run for Amazon Relay which I too will be the only employee starting out under my authority.

That being said did you still have to do it? Costly? Then what has been your overall experience with Amazon Relay?

    Thank you in advance!

Were you able to get out of doing this? If not was it costly? Then what has been your overall experience with Amazon Relay?

i ask because I’m getting a box truck going under my own authority starting out and have heard mixed things on Amazon Relay which the requirements alone just simply don’t make sense forcing workman’s compensation even with employees that are normally 1099 under a authority anyways but hoping the pay and loads are there then I have no problem jumping through the hoops.

    Thanks in advance

You won't need workers comp for just yourself. Amazon is great to start out with...they'll keep you busy.

How are the rates? Do they have a good program for accessorial costs?

Rates are market specific. Some are great and others not so much. Amazon operates the same as any broker...paying better for certain lanes and less for others.

What makes Amazon good is consistent volume. Their data analysts are constantly making changes to the rates and even the volume to meet their needs, not the carrier. There have been some big companies go under for relying on Amazon to keep their company afloat. Those companies were relying on Amazon to remain a golden goose but as Amazon finds more efficient ways of transfer, like using 26' box trucks instead of 53' vans, they rely less and less on outside businesses.

Amazon is trying to build a UPS type network that will eliminate the need for all outside vendors - they are spending big now to reduce costs in the future. Amazon has provided an opportunity for very small companies to provide their drivers with consistent work. That's what Amazon is good for.
