If he is diagnosed with it and it is on his medical card they will ask him if he was compliant and they will ask for proof via a readout from his sleep doctor from the machine. If he can't provide that then he loses his medical card.

Pilits go through this too. Your system is fine and good, but how do you weed out the ones that truly have issues cause we both know no driver is going to get tested on his own accord?

And so do Lt Colonels in the US Army. My son-in-law has OSA, he sleeps most nights with a CPAP. OSA is a problem all across the US that affects maybe millions of people NOT just people in the transportation industry. As far as a system to test, I am going to repeat what @ZVar said earlier. I saw this actually happen. A driver had a sleep study done at I believe a VA hospital. Came back with a few "wake-ups" under the threshold amount. His carrier's ME refused to accept it. They forced him to go through another sleep study and this one found he had OSA I think about 30 wake-ups. One of those sleep studies was wrong, which one was it? Because the carrier forced that last one they went by the last sleep study. I spoke to a guy with a Ph.D. who works as a VA provider. he told me OSA can be broken down into three areas. One, people who DO NOT have it. Next people that have some issues but are not really serious, and lastly people that have it bad. What seems to be happening is clinics and other crooks are grouping everybody into one group then telling them you HAVE OSA until you can prove you don't, then when said proof comes they poo poo it and demand thy test in conditions THEY control.

Let me make something clear. I am retired and don't have a dog in this debate any longer. I lost weight and no longer have problems with OSA. As I stated I don't want people that have serious problems with OSA operating a CMV without getting help. As far as a driver telling the truth where does the verification stop? I think EVERYBODY needs to take a deep breath until a better way can be found to really test for OSA and also maybe find a cure that does not mean being tied to a #### CPAP for the rest of your life!

Drivers operated for decades without being tested. Pretty sure they were able to sleep when they were tired. Well, everyone except the double log book crowd….they slept when Benny was driving.

here, my relative needed to do a sleep test. however, she is of little income and didn't have the $200 deposit for the equipment, nor a credit card, that was also required.

(it was to ensure she'd return the equipment)

People can ask for copy of their sleep study and see themselves of they stopped breathing I believe. They can see every breath someone takes. You can see when someone stops breathing.

I would agree if a driver is at the low end of sleep apnea Events say 5-10 they might not feel a big difference. It also depends on how much someone blood oxygen level drop. I'm no doctor but if someone is on very high end of sleep apnea like I was. You will see a big improvement.

The sleep doctor can score or count someone sleep apnea Events manually from my understanding or they can go by that the computer says. The company can count wrong and is someone is borderline say 5-9 Events per hour the test could wrong. It better if the doctor does it manually themselves
