So I keep having electronical issues on the old Pete. I hear it's a common problem because the wiring under the hood is not sealed at all from the elements so corrosion is common and happens quickly plus the drivers side footwell is absolutely THE worst possible place for a fuze box. Every vehicle ever made has its common problems. However with more popular vehicles that have been around for awhile there's usually aftermarket solutions to those problems. Has any 379 owners done anything to better protect their fuzes and wiring against the elements or is there a product that addresses the issue?

    What year is your 379?

Most of the wiring outside the cab should have weatherpack connectors

It's a 2005 with a 3406E. It has some durable looking connectors but in the open not compartmentalized like on newer tractors. The connectors recently got replaced also because the old ones had too much corrosion. Perhaps there are some more heavy duty connectors that can be installed or some way to provide additional sealant?

I was thinking of getting some rubberized weather stripping to put around the little fuze box door to hopefully seal that up a little better. That would be super cheap and easy to do.

You’re better off sealing the cab,so that you don’t have water leaks.
Windshield, cab lights and visor mounts are the most common places for leaks.

If your issues are related to anything in the fuse box by your left foot it’s because it’s had water running down the windshield post right onto the fuse panel probably since it rolled out of the factory in 2005. And if not that soon then definitely after the windshield got replaced the first time and for sure once the foam on the cab lights dry rotted.

Look into Deuscth Connectors when you’re rewireing

1989 here and not much corrosion on the interior wiring

I'd focus on any leaks like the guys said above. Sealing up the fuse panel door wouldn't be a bad idea

I haven't found any leaks so far. Overall the truck is in good shape. I'm just thinking ahead. Of course the more I deal with this truck the more it reminds me of my pickup. Who'd have thought that an early 2000's Peterbilt would just be a big 1980's Chevy? Even uses the same headlights. Then the random mix of both metric and standard everywhere.

The gasket between the firewall and the box itself is what leaks the worst in my experience. They should have used butyl instead of neoprene material for the gasket. Don't want to cover the fuse box door with anything. It needs to breathe. Stupid place for it because in the Winter that area is always subjected to snow covered boots. I use dielectric grease on all connections unless they're sealed like Weatherpacks or Duestch.
