I just picked up a new Ram 3500 dually I ordered end of May. Pricing was as quoted (msrp) at order time. Once it was built, I downloaded the window sticker and the price had gone up $3k. So technically a tiny discount if you use government math. The fun part was: had I refused it, it would have gone on the lot posted for 30% over msrp and sold in a week or two.

I sold a couple trucks recently.

Not counting actual cost of running… but cost of purchase vs cost of sale… one was 12 cents per mile and the other 10 cents costs per mile.

That’s pretty frickin hard to beat! You can make money that way IMO. I’ll never own used again rest of my time. My Dad always said I should be buying new but I “couldn’t afford it”. Now I realize more then ever I can’t afford to not buy new.

I wonder how much that will go up on the newer trucks. Higher fuel cost and higher cost of truck. But all in all that is a great deal!

    Rideandrepair and gekko1323 Thank this.

How did you come up with that?

Purchase price - Sale price divided by miles

    ?

Siinman, Feedman and Rideandrepair Thank this.

On a good note, well I guess it depends on how you look at it …..

My trucks that were supposed to get built 2-3rd quarter of 2023 are now getting built December 7, 2022.

Now I’m still credit fresh here and I do not want to pay cash like every single other thing I have so it’s going to be a struggle to find someone to give me a business loan here in the next few months.

My guess is we will have to really push through getting our taxes done and use that for an approval.

I think the math changes, at least psychologically, when one is starting out versus having years of experience and getting ahead of the cash flow and cost of money components.

I tend to deal with trucks and equipment like I do horses; buy high and keep them till they die!

I bought my last truck with 244k miles on it and sold it at 600k miles for $18k less than I paid. So that’s a nickel per mile.

Two weeks ago I was offered $190k for my current truck. If I would’ve taken that I would’ve gotten paid 22 cents per mile to drive it.

I’m still in the old junk club, too much into her at this point although I’m sure in my life time big brother will be telling me to put this old girl in the barn and drive something more green, which I will buy new on.

I’ll definitely never buy a used trailer again if I can help it though, unless it’s something I’m not going to run every day
