Mac 27 is traditionally "Go 1 mile to the third light, 1th st. Turn rt, go to Fire St. Take left, then immead rt, follow to front st, turn rt, cross rr, shipper is on right just past."
What they really mean is "first street is the first light and a quarter mile down. Turn right, when you see the fire station, turn left and follow the curve around. Now travel 26 miles to front street, turn right, drive 3 more miles to cross the railroad tracks, and the shipper is actually on the left another mile down."
Sounds hilarious, but those are all pieces of directions we've gotten. Or, we get directions from Mapquest and the 0.1 miles and the turn rights are all badly formatted.
And I took your humor as just that, because Central doesn't give good directions. And, that twisty turny bit is no joke, I nearly put a trailer in the ditch because it's tight corners and a lot of traffic, all things considered.

I never call my. Dm, because they're not that useful for numbers. If you can't google a place, but have a cell phone, use Google's 411: 1 800 466 4411 (1-800-GOOG411) it's free, unlike the $1.99 call to 411 for your cell phone provider.
If you ask the shipper/rec for directions, try for shipping, not the front office. The office staff often have no idea about truck restrictions, so they may tell you how they get to work. The shipping office may have better directions, and asking for landmarks or anything you need to worry about can't hurt.
Not all shippers can be gotten ahold of though, so sometimes you're stuck. Safeway, for example, you can't get anyone who will put you in touch with the frozen receiving. I spent 4 hours trying to get ahold of them once, and it just wouldn't workJmurman, LADYANDTHETRAMP and jasper_truck86 Thank this. -
Awesome!! Thanks for that 411 tip!! Yeah..sometimes you can't reach people.. I hate that.. I then have to blindly follow my gps and my atlas...
Speakin of twisty turnies.. Never listen to centrals routing in north carolina.. My gosh.. They put me on a backroad that a pickup has trouble with.. I was having to take blind turns in both lanes.. And still one wheel would be off in the soft shoulder.. That was an experiance there.. -
I have called customers before and if you are lucky you can talk to someone who speaks english. Sometimes though you run the risk of talking to the one guy who speaks englsih but hasn't got a clue how to get the place.
I called one place and the guy said, Uhm, I think you go 4 lights, but it may only be 3 just don't turn on the street with the low bridge, so then turn left but it's a one way street so you will be going the wrong way but I'm really not sure how trucks get here, good luck -
Yeah.. Let me retract my statement.. 95% of the time it helps to call the customer.. Lol.. Remember in class.. "Now the 27 directions are from drivers just like you.. So I would use those before I would call" said mr.ron. I just think the qc are rubbis 99% of the time.. The other 1% is right on the money..
I must admit once or twice people have led me to their place.. But put me smack dab in the middle of employee parking.. Lol.. Those were good times...hahahaha!! I'm going up to sacramento,ca.. Can anyone tell me how safe ill be there? Is it bad crime or would it be just like downtown chicago? I'm kinda worried.. I watched gangland on tv before I left.. And it has me a little worried to even go to ca. -

Huh.... interesting mac27 advice. Although I have seen one instance where the 27 directions were correct and decipherable. I always google map the address, streets and trips, and the GPS. Satellite view is a great way to figure out what you are getting into.
Funny how the roads were really crappy in Ohio and completely clear and dry in Pennsylvania.
Had a nice sunday drive into Maine, even NJ and NY weren't to bad. Will be near Springfield, MA tomorrow and then head to Detroit. -
why is the white volvo w/ the shamrocks you guys? I think ill be stopping there anyway because of hrs. depending on what time I leave Sysco here in Billings.
-
Sac isnt anything like downtown chicago. Pretty nice actually.
-
Sacramento is very safe. Our guys (Foster farms) went there all the time and never had any problems.
Where are you delivering to?
