Looking at buying one or two sets of the coolant and cab heating units.........and wondering if a mediocre, but conscientious, mechanic could install those units, or if one needs to have------in our case------ThermoKing do it.
Appreciate hearing about your experiences.
Thanks.
Anyone installed the Espar coolant and/or cab heaters?

Before I shut down my truck,..I was pricing em' out.....If a remember right,..most that I talked to included it in the price and having them install it helped with any warranty issues.....I could be wrong..

the cab heaters are good. but im not too keen on the engine heaters
-
Any information would be helpful to us at this point.
Thanks. -
I've found almost all the time they don't install the engine heaters correctly to properly circulate the coolant. You have to use the highest point in the cooling system and the lowest point or else its pretty much useless. Most the time they just tap in the easiest lines and call it good. So if it were to be installed correctly im not sure how well it would work.

The WEBASTO brand has been more reliable than the ESPAR brand for block heaters. The ESPARs would fail you when you needed them the most. I highly recommend the WEBASTO TSL17 as the hydronic heater. If you are fairly good at wrenching then it is an easy install. Give yourself about 10 hours to do it (thats doing a good job). The dealers charge about 10 hours for installation time. I would hate to see anyone pay the dealers price if they can do it themselves.
I have not been around cab heaters but I hope to get some installed next fall. -
I don,t know much about the engine heaters, but i can say i have had a espar bunk heater for two seasons now and i wouldn,t trade it for the world!! Havent had one problem with it, and its like your on vacation in hawaii every night in my truck, does not matter how cold it is out. Also seems to use next to no battery power.

I have been running both the block and bunk heater by espar and I love them both !!

THe above is what I paid in 2008---------Canadian dollars. Bot from Cool-It Highway, in British Columbia. Excellent people to work with.
Contrary to the salesman above who knows which brand is the best but had not been around any, we have had excellent service out of the above, and use them nearly everyday in winter. The timers we have found to be absolutely essential.
