I said products which I meant the entire Freightliner family. Wow another one of those don't take advice from a 19 year old cause I don't drive a truck. Please, I worked in the trucking industry. Some people need to truly grow up and stop with the your young you don't know what your talking about crap. Seriously!

 

Most fleets get low horsepower engines, and cummins and cat pull better than a lower HP detroit. Dunno if its the way they rate HP or what... but thats just been my experience.

however, i have a 515 detroit series 60 with ether injection in my truck, and it pulls as hard as when i drove an owner op truck with a cummins with the fuel turned up

really, would it make sense to not make your own engine available in your truck?

To back you up though, a quick google of "2005 peterbilt with detroit engine" pulls up several ads for peterbilts for sale that are detroit diesel equipped. Since KW and pete are both made by Paccar, that means KW must be available with them too. It just doesnt seem to be a popular engine choice in those trucks.

Back in 2003 before the first emissions went into effect Freightliner decided to stop supply their competitors with Detroit because I think it was around 2000 when Freightliner bought Detroit. Think about it, why sell engines you own to the competition?

 

Why not?They're already not going to buy your Freightliner for whatever reason.Sell them an engine.You may not get 100% of the new truck sale but you can get 30% of it just by selling them the engine.Not all Freightliners came with Detroits.Why lose 100% of the sale when you could still get 70% of it just by putting a different motor in it?

 

I have no clue, I thought it was stupid on Daimler's a part. Just think if they sold Detroit to the competition they could profit big time. A Detroit in a Pete or KW tied to a 10spd or even a 13spd would be a dream to a fleet or owner operator who is worried about fuel mileage.

 

Those trucks did not come from the factory with Detroits they are glider kits. You won't find any 2005 Kenworths with a Detroit unless it was done by a shadetree mechanic. Google "Detroit engines no longer available in PACCAR" or something like that and see for yourself what happened about 8 years ago.
