European immigrants have a strong presence in Sacramento area as well as the San Joaquin Valley. Truckers, brokers, mechanics, and they're getting into sales and insurance too.
I've have had very little first hand dealings with them but from what I've seen and from what I've heard their ratio of bad guys to good guys is about the same as any other.
I sold my dry vans and reefers a few years ago and they all went to buyers with Eastern European names. None of their checks bounced, I didn't get any after the fact calls about the shape the trailers were in, and they sent trucks up here to pick them up.
One of them took over a frozen fish haul we had and he called once to ask about some numbers he was getting. I told him my numbers were pretty much the same, we compared horror stories, had a good laugh, and that's the last I heard of him.
By the same token, one of my competitors sold a T-8oo to a Sacramento rock hauler. After six months of promises, no money, and lies on Ivan's part he went to repossess it. The tires were gone, the fifth wheel was gone, the bumper was gone, the easily removable engine parts were gone, and there had been dogs living in the cab. He still hasn't had a resolution on it. Ivan is no where to be found. The truck, what little is left of it, is still in W. Sacramento.Atwt, Another Canadian driver, cdavis188 and 6 others Thank this. -

What'd (s)he say??
Punctuation is your friend...Atwt, Another Canadian driver and Lonesome Thank this. -
I think he said he didnt get paid so he contacted the Dept of Labor and made a claim against them.Atwt, Another Canadian driver and Lonesome Thank this.

I thought it said that, kind of, until I saw the word overtime. Then I was confused by the missing punctuation (except for that one misplaced comma). Then, I wondered: how ignorant does a Dept of Labor have to be to levy a fine for a completely LEGAL policy of paying straight time after 40 hours (assuming USA).
Which led me to "WTH did this person even say?" Gotta be Gen Z...Atwt, Another Canadian driver and Bumper Thank this. -
leave that irrelevant info of their ethnic background off of the threads, it violates racism policy.Last edited: Feb 14, 2023
Atwt and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
Clearly, you've never dealt those other cultures. That's okay, I hope you never do. Although I didn't learn the hard way, I know quite a few who did since Chicago area is my old stomping grounds. Think barely legal companies flirting with RICO. That's not racism. It's a reality.
If you disagree, I can hook you up with an easy .75/mile every mile gig by tomorrow.Bret1984, Atwt and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
