Dock and City was capped at 24/Hr, and linehaul was .51 when I left. In Charlotte, NC around 2013..

I was told by old timers it was great till the late 90s when inflation outran wages. Seniority people had to take overtime a lot to keep their annual gross up when I was there; some lived there..

I was around Yellow in the 80s and 90s and it was a prestigious place to get a job about like the railroad then. You had to know someone that had pull to even get an interview.

I just spent 7 months at Tax Air Madison. equipment was bad, management wasn't great, they have a driver there that spent at least 12 hours of his vacation polishing his truck while i covered his route. the company even supplied him with a scissor lift from Milwaukee. He only does the west and east side of Madison but they think he's God's gift to trucking. dispatch thinks they know everything even though one of them has never been in a truck and the other that did spend some time in a class B thinks she knows everything about class A and keeps routing the stops so that the stops that close earliest are dead LAST on the route. That terminal is a cesspool. Not a happy crew there.

you still have to know somebody, they want drivers for terminals where employees with seniority are waiting to jump bid on those open driving positions, so how does an outsider or yrc driving school grad get a driving position .? ask your recruiter this
Has anyone else run across this situation ? What is really going on in Yellow. ? they said all of yrc. new penn. etc. are going to be all yellow now…. they have good shops keep stuff in repair. at least here in pa

Just apply and probably be hired. Several drivers on this forum applied and were hired. Some went to private cdl school and some went to YRC/Yellow cdl school.

Well.... I worked at Holland in Mpls for 3 years. I left 4.5 years ago, but I still talk several times a week to people that I worked with there, and part of this is my own observations and some of it is hearsay from them.

Yes, all "Yellow" companies are "Yellow" now. Most of the dispatch (not all yet, but they are close) is under 1 roof. The guys I worked with are not real happy about the new system but so far they have been running loaded trailers and getting out pretty much on time.
The lay down runs are for the most part being eliminated in favor of meets or running to a hub. Pros and cons to this, especially with winter coming and the delays that come with it.
They havent started pulling doubles yet, but all linehaul required to have doubles endorsement. Its just a matter of time on that.
All truck are governed at 62 except the ones that have to travel 600+ miles which are at 65. The word is there wont be any more 600+ but personally I cant see that happening. They run too much freight to Indy to stage it through like Chicago making Indy a 2 day run. Doesnt make sense (which is maybe why they will do it).
All their trucks are leased and most of the work on them is done by the dealers except simple stuff like lights and oil changes. At least in Minneapolis.
People are leaving faster than they are being replaced either through finding better work or retirement.
They have been consolidating yards. YRC/Holland at least which makes sense if they are all being dispatched from the same place.
Personal note: The old Holland yard in Minneapolis is actually owned by Estes along with 6 other yards. Estes wants the Minneapolis yard but when they bought it they had an agreement for a 20 year lease (actually 10 years with an automatic renewable for another 10 years). I worked for Estes before I went to Holland and this was told to me by the Minneapolis Estes TM. So the old Holland yard will be closing in the next few years (it is on the north side of town). They will either move them to Burnsville (which is on the south side of town) or swap yards with Estes (which is actually the old Holland yard before they moved to where it is now).
Yellow got a lot of loans from the government during the pandemic which congress investigated and found they werent entitled to. How this will play out is anyones guess, but Yellow isnt in the greatest financial shape.

    For what its worth...

They hire out of CDL school I'm told by people still at YRC Charlotte. It was mostly young people last time I went by the terminal.

I know here and YT the YRC, ABF, UPS, Estes' salary claims are way off. I know people who have been at YRC, UPS, and ABF for decades that don't make what most are claiming and they are basically the first name on the seniority list...

You ain't making "$8,900" or "$4,800" a week and seeing home even decades in... Especially middle or bottom of the list.. Especially when pay starts low twenties(or less) and .5x or .6x

Most drivers I know are making 80-90k at LTL companies. One made 100k but worked more than I care to think about. That seems about right.

ABF driver I know who has been LTL since 1993 does like 105k a year which is around 2300 gross.. New drivers on YT are claiming 3k to 9k a week at ABF and even South Eastern... It's like they assume the public can't do third-grade math...

Nobody is paying new drivers 140k to 430k a year to do anything... Especially 53' or doubles...
