Hey Saddle,
We were told that we would be getting 40 hrs of "road time" but we didn't get nearly that much. I'd say about 1/10th of that if we were lucky. Thing is, this is Massachusetts and it is one of the hardest states to get your Class A in. The teachers tell us up front, the only goal they have is to help us get our CDL-A. That's it. So I understand the limited time they give us on the road. They mainly focus on maneuvers and brake bleed downs, the stuff that the trooper really grills us on.
Basically in a nutshell, road time was very limited for me, basically because I did fine on the road tests they gave me. Big thing u gotta learn in MA, is downshifting and double clutching, very easy once you get the hang of it. -Hope this helps some, Zeus

can anyone comment on TDI school out of Sellersburg Indiana for me?. is it a decent school?.

Now do they herd students in and teach just the basics? Yes and that was something that I disagreed with and tried to change but to no avail. They teach you to pass the Class A test and that's about it. It's about getting as many students enrolled as possible and the bottom line with any company is...money.
In my day, there were no schools to learn how to drive. I did it on my own, the hard way. Started out on a straight truck, working local, then finally got to drive tractor trailer after a few months. Went on the road for a number of years. Dispatched for Holmes Transportation in Mass. for a little over a year. Director of training for NETTS for almost 3 years and then back to road driving, so I think I know a little of what I'm talking about.
So to the young man who posted this thread, be patient. Your opportunities for driving a big rig will come in time. One step at a time. -
netts does teach you just the basic to pass your test not real stuff, when i went for my training whit werner i looked like stupid guy, and we have others people that paid half what we paid for our school and they know a lot off stuff seriously .

They were $$, had an iffy track record getting folks jobs, and seemed to cater to state agencys that pay for students training.
When I walked in, it was like walking into a used car dealer....the sales pitch, the asking for a deposit "right now", etc...lots of red flags.
As a resident of NH, I looked around (we have 0 schools in NH, and a community collage or two), and I found a small school in Maine that does NH students....
Seems like a good place so far...lots of current places are hiring from them...including some places that don't advertise they hire new CDL holders...a big plus. So far, so good. (It is not the one that uses auto's for the tests).
I have heard that the best places don't need to spend $$$ on recruiting...and this seems to confirm it....you just need to have a school with the connections, and instructors "in the know".
When I get further in, I'll make a thread on the school. But so far so good. From what I understand, the owner was an instructor at a community collage teaching CDL's, and when they got rid of the program, he started the school years ago. It has small classes, 4-6 people, and does not have viedo's...unlike the 20 year old ones in use when I peeked into the NETTTS classroom. They actually teach!!
I'm sure NETTS is what it is....but if you pay big bucks, you should get return....if the quality of the product is exactly the same as what you get at a company 3 week school, why spend the $$$? -
You also have Parker down here in Mass that i think is like $4,000 or 5k.....
-
i mean not finding job , because the guy that nettts got now really does what he can to help you , but i mean quality of teaching compare of money taking from you.
i meet student from new york and other places that show them every day how to hook the trailer for 2 hours , but i swear to god i was theare every weekend and they never did once show us , for NH students we use to do only 2 pre-trip after maneuvers drive for 20 MN that it. yes i pass for the first time , everybody told me great job .......
but the thing is the training is only to pass the test in nh, not what you do in real life.
those students they train them for test and the after test , with the biggest truck trailer , the some with the companies like Werner and others , not the the small ones that we have at school ......no wander why swift don't want to take students from north andover anymore ....that what i heard and you can find it here in this website too . -

now, here's something Mr.Former Director of training at nettts,,,,,,,,,
years agao, a student could GO BACK to nettts for a FREE refresher course, and that would be the FULL course, not a quickie one.......
nowadays........?? school says, "screw-em, they HAVE TO PAY "up to" $1,000 for a refresher course...........how's that about your old employer.........?????????

Hi Zippy,
I was just reading through the forum and your post below caught my eye. I have been looking around trying to find information re: trucking schools and we in NH do not have many choices # all. After reading all the NETTTS issues that concerns me. Is the school you are talking about NTI in ME? Are you still working towards finishing your training? did you already get your CDL? I guess what I am asking is, I am trying to look into new opportunites and driving is something of interest and would be interested to hear about your experience/background and suggestions.
Thanks,
Will
anyone else in NH with NTI school experience?
"Yup...When I looked at schools, NETTS was not near the top of my list....
