I just asked the wife who knows all the numbers, what percentage of gross our insurance costs.
    She said 1.19%

Price you pay for leasing on to companies i suppose.

I spoke to insurance about running my own authority. They said new carrier would be looking at 2500 per truck

Depends on what we are insuring. A $50,000 load of general freight in a $10,000 dry van beng pulled by a $15,000 tractor I would agree with you.
If we are talking $500,000 load of perishable goods in a $200, 000 reefer being pulled by a $250,000 power unit there is a little more at risk.

How about a million dollar Load, on a $600k trailer, pulled by a 300k truck.

Precisely, you aren't insuring an outfit like that cheap.

When you average out the regular and overtime days it's pretty easy to get $500 pd in mining, oil, logging.

And that wouldn't even be considered good pay, just so so.
