It is designed like that on purpose. More of a behavior adjustment. Instead of you having the freedom of turning down the radio or not, the radio does it for you, because "safety".

My new 2023 cascadia has that feature. I've always lowered the radio while backing up. It really feels like an intrusion when it does it by itself.

If you think about it, these trucks already come equipped with level 2 autonomous driving features. I am not 100% in control. It has very loud lane departure warning, thankfully company did not put the assist with it also, or truck would forcibly move the steering wheel for you. Drove a rental bmw that had that, and wow. What a disappointing experience.

Adaptive smart cruise. Horrible, especially when cruise is faster than on pedal, forces you to go blocking the left lane a lot earlier. Not to mention it can, and does slam on breaks randomly.

It is very sad where things are headed in the name of safety, and slowly displacing us. It feels like I am teaching the robot how to drive, and soon enough it will have even more features that take my power away.

    Shut radio off.

    Pay attention to your driving.

It is a feature of the radio that is controlled by a setting in the ECM. Had a 2017 Volvo that was that way... Talked to my mechanic and he hooked his computer up to the truck and disabled that feature.

Lowering the volume of the radio isn’t an issue

it when it comes back on , it changes the song or whatever
    You were listening to

the idiots that designed it obviously never used it or tested it while listening to a audiobook or podcast or iTunes

Some drivers need to have funeral music playing while in reverse.

It can be either disabled by hooking up a computer or cutting the wire that goes to radio steering wheel controls or just swap the ####ty concert class for a better sony one

On my truck, the mute button on the steering wheel also acts as a pause, so you can hit it before you back up. While it may have been the plug in cable I used vs a Bluetooth hookup, that didn’t work on the truck I drove Saturday.
