Well you were just working for the wrong company. My wife and I get an extra 4cpm as a team for all miles just for being endorsed, whether we haul a placarded load or not.

I’m glad it worx for you....but we live in two entirely different worlds
I dont(won’t) work on mileage....and although at this point in my life,...I am working for someone....it’s an extremely fair realistic %.,.,And haz rates(with some very rare exceptions) do not and never have paid any better than any other general freight....

    Zoltan1a and RJM1953 Thank this.

I also have never made anymore money with the hazmat endorsement than without. I have been working with same company for 20 years and one of the bad things about it is it’s a seasonal position. So for 17 years I had to find something to do for the winters which was delivering heating oil and more recently running a propane tanker.

At first they always matched what I made at my summer job but after about 5 years my pay eclipsed what they were willing to pay. So I actually had to take a pay cut in order to keep busy during the winter despite needing a hazmat endorsement.

Three years ago I came to an agreement to work for my summer company year round so when my license came up for renewal last year I decided to skip the hassle and renew without the hazmat, and I am making more money than ever without it.

    RJM1953 and tscottme Thank this.

Hazmat is a requirement for those who aspire to the LTL business.

We haven't had to do HM endorsements for a bit but my wife just did TWIC again in September and got card in about a month.

We are on a dedicated account that runs HM weekly...had an issue early in the pandemic where the stupid DOT offices were closed to walkins and my wife and carrier goofed on her HM expiration so we tried to do renewal at the last minute unsuccessfully.

I just got an email saying my TWIC was approved and on its way it took a few days shy of two months for it to be approved. And I already have an active hazmat endorsement.

    tscottme Thanks this.

As a team an extra $200/wk @ 5000 miles. That's an extra 9,600/yr @ 48 weeks, well worth the investment.

We rarely haul hazmat, so it's a no brainer to me. Every situation is different, but in mine it's clear. It plays our mortgage.

    RJM1953 Thanks this.
