Owner was before the times or was the originator of the "airborne" shift lever. Looks like a screw on extension extending the main. Maybe the little finger wheel/thumb fore finger on knob of main, then dove over to floor to get the 4 wheel. Be hard to gather up all that space while moving. Not being a pro on
4 wheel drive, maybe you do it like a novice in a MACK, Stick one in something and move off, attempt a change... Stop, Stick one in something and move off, attempt a change...Repeat till you get the hang of it;or the man with you who can drive the dxmn thing says: That's enough for now, I'll drive awhile.
