Got a 2000 peterbilt 379 pulling reefer with a 6nz I got 4.3mpg from south Texas to Oklahoma and from Oklahoma to Missouri I got 5 mpg with wastegate pinched, is the wastegate itself possibly bad ?

I would think so too but I was getting 5.0 to 5.4 mpg doing the same runs with non pinched wastegate getting 24psi boost and I’m at 33psi pinched
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Why is the wastegate pinched? How much boost do you get with it pinched and how much without it pinched?
If you are trying to get better mileage don't let your boost run up all the way.
How fast are you running? -
I run 68-70mph keeping it at 1500rpm for the majority of the time
-
What was the wind like? That #### eats mileage like nothing else.
-
No real wind in between both fillups
-
Probably has a Low-NOx file in it. Find a reputable tuner and also have the overhead adjusted.
-
Sounds standard for a Cat. Personally never seen one break 5 mpg.

Really? I'm around 5.5 to 6 frequently as long as I'm not fighting wind too bad. Throw wind in the mix and it burns fuel like an aircraft carrier.
