Copy that strange feeling. Sorry to hear about the experience. Funny thing, memories! Can be good, can be bad
. We always had problems in Ks. with the weighboys. They would sit in the drive thru at the banks in small towns and nail us when we cruized thru late at night.

From '92 to '96 I worked for a book distributor here in Denver, Monfort back hauls were loads of books from Chambersburg, PA to Denver. I remember talking to some of the guys, they would pickup on Friday and have a standing 6am Monday unload apt., most were backed up to our dock, trucks off, and sometimes the engines cold, by the time we came into work at 9pm on Sunday. I recall one guy that had a bright yellow KW, used to see him every couple of weeks.
The worst one was the guy who didn't realize what was in the trailer when he picked it up, typically in Chambersburg it was drop/hook and the doors were already closed/sealed. He fired up the reefer, set it for 0 deg. and hauled ### across country. When we opened the doors at midnite on Sunday, there was ice everywhere, ended up with a huge claim on that load as it was 70% ruined. -
Stick Hauler, Did you ever backhaul LTL freight out of Allstates Trucking in Oak Creek WI? The guys I used to haul with were Night Breaker, Muleskinner, and a 3rd guy that just went by Bobby. Great bunch of guys, fun to truck with. I think Night Breakers W900L and Muleskinners T800 were both owned by Franklin Dale out of Morganton NC. -
Many a bump!!!! Ha Ha!!!!

I'd love to see some pics of the old Circle C trucks. They were in a magazine in the mid '80's called "American Trucker". The mag was similar to 10-4 magazine of today.

How about OverDrive Magazine?
-
Oh yea!!!! I miss the OLD overdrive magazine!!!
Truck of the month, wrecker of the month, model of the month, (which was always my favorite, at that time I was driving the 1/32 scale snap-tite Monograms on the kitchen table!)Small fleet of the month.
It's like I tell everyone, "I've been in trucking for every one of my 40 years, just spent the last 22 years behind the wheel!! I remember there being a red Circle C truck in the centerfold of American Trucker, and the Vernon Truckwash as one of its main advertisers. I also remember when the "old" overdrive had Johnson CB's as one of their advertisers... Full page add with a "Cowboy Cadillac" similar to an El Camino in their add! I also remember an owner operator out of California, his name was Clay Youngblood, tall black guy had one of the last Autocar road tractors made. I still see the truck around So Cal,the truck still looks brand new. I'm just not sure if it belongs to him or not. It's a dark emerald green and it looks like a Western Star before they redesigned their trucks. Same cab and hood, but Autocars had a slightly different sleeper. His truck was another featured truck in American Trucker. The magazine wasn't around but only 3 or 4 years. -
Hey, my dad was a Monfort driver back in the 70s. I rode with him and ran across your post and remember the big number on the roof, the long cb number he had to call out for his cb license and the excessive the truck ran. And how ugly the beef looked in the back of the trailer. He went by Mainer. I used to so remember when he would holler on the radio and flash his lights how people would get over right and then we played games like how many trucks and cars we passed. One night I was cold and the heater stopped working in the sleeper and he stopped and bought me a blanket that I still have. Its blue with multiple white sheep and one black sheep on it. We bought it in Las Cruces, NM. Thank you for letting me share my story because nobody in this anal trucking world knows what the Monfort Lane actually was but it was a special part of my life to be on it, and I hope to carry his legacy on. Thank you for your website. If there are any of you out there that may remember him I would love to hear from you.
