May i suggest a German shephard? They are great guard dogs. We had to put down our girl earlier this year. Even on 3 legs she was more agile than some dogs with 4 . and by god if a pin dropped within 100ft of the house , her ears would perk up and she would let out an agressive bark, saying u better stay away. Very protective and very smart. Sweetest dog ive ever had the honor of calling my own. Not only do they help protect the castle but they offer happiness and love that cant be found anywhere else.

I've been doing some researching while keeping watch over night. We love dogs. The only reason we don't have one is because we haven't felt we could give the dog what it needs. It's just awful when animals aren't cared for properly and then people blame the animal when it has behavior problems. We have to be certain that if we bring one into our home, that it will be happy and healthy with our lifestyle.

Doing the research into various breeds is quite fascinating. A German Shepherd is a contender. Not only have I had a fondness for them since I was a kid, but they are remarkable animals. We're almost certain that a dog will be coming, it just has to be right.

I'm partial to herding dogs myself. I'd love to get myself a Border Collie or Australian Shepherd one day.

We use to have a Rhodesian Ridgeback back in England. Superb guard dog, very loyal and protective.

Both are excellent breeds. Collies are high energy dogs with superior intelligence. So they need lots of physical and mental exercise. One of the things about those breeds, they need a job to do or they get bored and will look for an outlet.

The Anatolian Shepherd is one I'm looking at. Just incredible what they're capable of with proper training.

Yes they are. Originally they were bred to guard against lions in Africa. Extremely loyal and loving to their family. And a handsome animal as well.

My cousin Kelly has had Aussies since we were kids. They’re good pets, but truly amazing stock dogs. Kelly doesn’t spend much time chasing critters. He just opens the gates, whistles, and waits.
