Hello and thanks for letting me in ... here is hoping I don't snag any infractions right off the bat!:biggrin_25523:

I found this site looking for an article on dogs, after I got in and looked around, I knew it was a good place to be. Truckers and dogs, good combo.

I am retired from the road, (15 + years now) still miss it and have lost touch with all but a few close road friends. I have always been involved in dogs and breeding for the better part of 34 years and after I retired dogs kept me from being bored. I rarely breed anymore but still have my foundation stock and two pups I just couldn't bear to part with, well one decided to keep me and it's a good thing she did because I started having problems with diabetes being very erratic, up and down. If it was during the night, she woke me up in time to keep things from getting into the ER status of sugar drops:biggrin_25521:. She also senses when it is too high.

I also keep busy with a pet law group, and AKC legislation because of the infamous H$U$ that wants to ... well I am sure you know what they do and are... anyway, thanks for letting me join in.

Oh.. btw, my dogs are hairless Chinese Cresteds. My little 'nurse' dog only weighs a little under 5 lbs!:biggrin_25525:
Just in case some of my old road friends are in here ... I answered to 'Crazy Red' and drove the 'Lost and Found Department'.

Welcome to the forum KrestieKrew! You are a welcome addition to be sure. Please feel free to share your experiences from the road and anything else that might help members here. Your interest in dogs is shared by many, many members. I think one of the forum staff members, LuvMyHubby, is also a breeder. Not sure but you can look for posts in "The Pet Shop". Thanks for joining, we'll look forward to getting to know you better!

Welcome to the forum. Lots of us just love dogs, and I would love to learn more about your favorite breed. I swing towards the opposite end of the size spectrum with Bullmastiffs. You said one of your dog weighs in at about 5 pounds - my bullmastiff weighs in at 125. Any size - dogs are great. I look forward to hearing more about yours.

Thanks... To make it a 'short' description, Chinese Cresteds are the same as they were 2000 years ago, the breed is considered to be a primative breed which means there have never been any others mixed into this breed to make it what it is today. There are only (I think) 5 primative breeds left in the world.

They come both with and without hair - and it is hair, not fur - the ones with hair are known as powderpuffs. What makes them hairless is a fatal gene :biggrin_25511:which only the hairless ones carry, puffs do not carry this gene, if a pup inherits the gene from both parents, it cannot survive so you must have good knowledge of genetics if you breed these using 2 hairless parents...even with both parents hairless, you can still get puffs in the litter.

Breeding puff to puff = no hairless:biggrin_25524:. They are also known as the 'velcro dog'. The hairless have hair on head, feet and tail in varying degrees. I don't have that many litters, my 5 pounder is smaller than standard size, there were 3 tinies in that litter very unusual to have that happen, and I am very particular where my pups go.

I have pics in my album of some of my dogs but you can click on images and google for either Chinese Crested hairless dog or Chinese Crested Powderpuff dog...you need to put the word dog in because there is a bird named chinese crested too.
