Yea, Yellow's training material is pretty good. The only thing missing was using the middle of the K-bar as a reference point for parallel parking. I have no real complaints.

    Week 3: Day 3-4

I feel I have mastered the left-side offset and parallel parking now. Did a pre-trip evaluation with the instructor and missed zero! I did a perfect air brake check. From here on out I will concentrate on being calm during the drive. At times I get a little frantic. A homeless man darted across the road and I slammed on those brakes so hard but I did good... maintained control of the truck! I did excellent coming on, during, and off the interstate. Practiced an emergency stop.

I’ll probably get these updates caught up soon. I forgot my laptop. I test Thursday!

You’ll be using their 3rd Party Tester right? You’ll be fine unless you can’t drive or don’t know the pre-trip at all.

Testing at the DMV is the hard one. They failed a lot of people for random stuff. I know someone who failed for taking their hand off the steering wheel AT A RED LIGHT.

It was a third party testing service called Great Lakes Testing Service. They have about three employees.

    Week 3: Day 5

I drove 2 hours on this day. The first drive was absolutely terrible. I kept shifting so rough. I almost thought the drive shaft was gonna fall off more than once. I was so frustrated. The instructor #1 was frustrated.

After lunch I drove in a different truck with instructor #2. It was flawless. It was a newer truck with a great manual Eaton 10 gear transmission.

Let me tell you these trucks can mess with your mind. Some trucks the clutch and spring on the shifter are crap.

    Week 4: Days 1-3

The last week was spent at the airport location in Indianapolis. Their practice yard is on dirt and gravel. The truck for range practice was ghetto. It could only go 5 mph. I did a good job with backing all week long. For most of the week did pre-trip, test drives around the airport including interstate, and backing. Usually do 3 hours of backing a day.

I put finishing touches on the pre-trip. Was evaluated the last time on Wednesday with Yellow. I pass the evaluation through Yellow. Wednesday I had a 2 Hour drive in the nicer truck. Did fairly well. At times got a little frantic but it was the best drive I’ve had.

Three students tested today. Only 1 passed. A student showed up early but didn’t know you had to come inside at least 20 minutes before testing to fill out paperwork. So, he was cancelled. He was so mad. The last student couldn’t parallel park and accumulated too many points.

    Week 4: Day 4

I passed the CDL examination!!!!!! Woot. The three students including myself passed. It was good. This wasn’t an easy course. A few times I was gonna call it quits but I forced myself to push through. We’re doing HAZMAT training tomorrow, doing an exit interview, and getting my certificate.

Congratulations. Keep us posted as to how things are going. Most of our LTL drivers are old hands with a lot of experience and savvy. It might be good to see LTL through a newcomer's eyes.
