They were all management positions... I wouldnt read to much into it..
JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
Management or not, when companies are expanding they're not generally laying people off.
Management is like the canary in the coal mine. The layoffs often start with managers so they can reduce the salary expenditure of the company, because they can see the rough times are coming and they're going to be a lean mean machine whoever knows what they're doing. and then they will probably lay some other people off but mostly the management roles will be thrown on to other managers and they'll just have more work to do. But that's okay because the actual layoffs are the next step for the workers.
I have heard that there are giant companies that are laying off thousands of people right now.
So the point is no one is expanding and everyone is Contracting and it's not looking good for anyone.
There is no positive forecast that I'm aware of.D.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
There is plenty of companies expanding right now.... Just have to look past consumer based industries
kylefitzy, blairandgretchen, JoeyJunk and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm not saying there isn't a company somewhere doing something that's expanding, but generally speaking with inflation rates this high companies are not expandimg. They don't do that in this cycle. This is the contract cycle. This is where everyone sees it's going to be hard to make money so you start trimming the fat off so you can survive.
Even non-consumer businesses eventually that comes down to the consumer. If people are not consuming no one's going to expand or at least not many.
So like I said there might be somebody somewhere, but this is not part of the cycle where people have any incentive to expand. During the previous administration they had incentive and a lot of people did expand.. but now I just don't see it. -
I think this is post covid leftovers. Many companies found out they could work with less employees and could also work from home. So they are trimming the management fat and probably using the economy as an excuse, whether it’s in The article or not. Just my 1 cent. Had more cents in 2021.

D.Tibbitt and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
if u want to relate it to trucking... travel center of America has been buying up properties and renovating their properties left and right while also planning to build alternative energy fueling at many of their locations...
All that is just off the top of my head..
not every country is in a recession, us based /operated companies are struggling for the most part with a few outliers, but business is global...Last edited: Nov 11, 2022
