Hopefully someone can help me out with this, I started working under the authority of one company that promised me big money if I use my truck and trailer for them but so far I have lost big time so I quit from them and started with another company under their authority as well and they are cheating me as well and refusing to pay me and telling me that the money I made for the two loads that they gave me they are going to keep because I haven't paid for the insurance yet in full even though I haven't worked for them for more than 2 weeks. What can I do and what are my rights?
Not being paid fairly

Read your contract - lease agreement - you signed and there you will see what your rights are. Maybe you sigbed something to agree that they can keep your money as deposit
Where is the company based out of?Siinman, ZVar, pumpkinishere and 3 others Thank this. -
Are these companies are based out of Chicago ?
you need to find a larger more reputable company .
And as mentioned , read the contract before you sign it . And don’t sign it without talking to other drivers who are running under this companies authority .
Do these companies have the own direct freight customers ?
Or are they using load boards ?
you need to find a company to lease onto that has their own freight and isn’t using load boards .
Or go ahead and get your own MC and insurance and use load boards yourself until you find some direct customers .pumpkinishere Thanks this. -

Try the third company they have. I bet thats the one.
Aamcotrans, GoneButNotForgotten, InTooDeep and 5 others Thank this. -
Your rights begin and end with whatever contract you signed and whatever is stipulated in said contract.

Read the contract carefully and the fine print. I only noticed the fine print after I was working within the contract and notiice that besides paying a percentage per load (that they never show the load confirmation price). Later finding out they split the overall load with the other driver on a percentage breakdown (eg. 20/80, 35/65 etc..spilt etc..) So basically, if the load pays $1k, $800 is the load (80%) and that is broken down 60/40 spilt if driven 40% of $800 I only get $320. Yes, nothing was straighforward when they said a driver can earn $11k/weekly ends up being $4300. Driving around with 6 stops daily running like crazy for peanuts burning $2200/week, No toll reimbursements, No scale reimbursements or fuel cap. It's a guessing game on pay settlement's. I had to leave. A lot of sharks in this business but I'm thinking they're turning into the extinct megalodons.

It's a very big gamble running with unknowns.
Sometimes there's a gem to work for. Sometimes. Most however are scams. First thing before agreeing to a load is to know the rate and have it in print. If you can't get that.
Time to leave right there. -
I worked for a couple companies that were small and had the best luck and would highly recommend it. Unfortunately there’s lots of bad ones that take advantage. I found them through my mechanic which I believe helps, since he talks to the drivers of all the companies and knows which are doing well and which aren’t.

Try something like admiral merchants or Mercer if you really want to lease on
