I know who one of his "security" guards are. He's been planted by Swift and JB Hunt. They're closer than he thinks!!!

If Tip isn't on the money why is there such a turnover rate?

*sigh* Look, the driver shortage is a reality. The turnover rate is what it is because there are so many people in this country who are like Tip and are afraid of doing whatever it takes to make it on their own two feet. Trucking requires a multitude of sacrafices that many people don't realize until after they get their foot in the door. Then they quit and leave the company in a bad spot. Then the company treats the next guy as if he's gonna leave too, until he proves them wrong by sucking it up and taking what comes his way. The good old America way of puting your nose to the grindstone has gone by the wayside. Since that has happened, these major conglomerates like Swift, CRE, JB Hunt, Werner, etc. takes advantage of liberal minded people who want something for nothing. Do they care about individuals? Absolutely not because so many individuals don't care about them.

What we have here is someone trying his darndest to relate several completely unrelated things. Yes, to a certain extent, there is a shortage of drivers. There is no doubt about that. Companies are constantly advertiing that they need drivers, and that's a sign of an inability to attract and retain enough drivers for the business and freight you have available. And just like in any business, there is a value in experienced people that is greater than that of untrained new people.

Actually, if you want to get specific, what we have is a shortage of drivers who are willing to do the job involved for the compensation offered. If it paid more, then there would not be any shortage of drivers, but instead a surplus. The trucking industry is subject to the laws of supply and demand just like any other business is.

And there are some tax advantages to be had for running a training program, since the applicable tax breaks often accompany job training programs. these are the same kinds of tax breaks and tax credits that apply to union run apprenticeship programs and other programs similar to that. But this doesn't mean that the companies recoup all of the costs of training and turn a profit by doing so. It's a break on their taxes, that limits a bit of the amount they have to pay taxes on. No one is physically handing them a pot of money for each of the students they take on.

As for the theory that there is some sort of tax break especially created for a few large companies that makes it profitable for them to have trucks sitting aorund parked on their lots, anyone on here is able to look through the tax code and see if you can find it. Or when you get your taxes done this year, ask your tax preparer about it. of course, be prepared to get laughed out of the room, but ask anyhow. This particular tax break exists only in the minds of a few people on here. it's certainly not anywhere in the tax code.

on a fairly regular basis I read a total of 7 ifferent trucking forums. And on not one of them has there ever been the slightest hint of this happening, except here and the source is only one person. I even pm'd a person who specializes in trucking taxes on another forum explaining it, and had it confirmed that there is no such provision anywhere in the tax codes.

It sounds like a great theory because you almost want to believe it to be true. But if you hold those theories up to the cold hard light of day, they begin to fade back into the shadows.

There are enough problems to actually solve in this industry without chasing will o the wisp theories that have no basis in reality.

of drivers willing to work for less than market value wages.

I suppose there are enough great jobs out there (both real and recruiter imagined) to cause the masses to continue trying, but very few attain the income levels they seek, so they quit.

Many of the bad numbers can be attributed to churning. Drivers think Swift did them dirty (probably did), so they go to work for one of the other TL biggies. When that honeymoon is over, off they'll fly again. Repeat.

What's the best solution for a decent trucking career? Unionized LTL, or, work for a company that is small enough that a lot of turnover would have adverse effects for them. They'll treat their driver pool much better than the dinosaur corporations will.

2xR thinks soon there will be no driver shortages, si. :smt028

Technically, they are reaping what they've sown. If you spam "Big Money, Easy Work" you attract people that want Big Money for Easy work. Then finanical responsibility comes in, so it becomes "Big Money for Easy Work, for people without Police/ Traffic Issues." Whoops.. too many kids.. "Big Money, Easy Work for People with Police/ Traffic Issues who are at least 23, maybe 25."

OK, So, now they're trying to hire people that have been in the real world for 5-7 years. that's long enough to come to some conclusions as to how life is supposed to work. Now, we're gonna really mess with ya. We're gonna send you away for 5 weeks. Please don't drive, we prefer a captive audience. You'll be rooming with this Inbred-Sasquatch, who's only real personality trait, is that he hates everything about you, and wants to watch you go to sleep.

Great! So, you're five weeks are up, glad you learned a lot in training, We chose that state because of their impeccable CDL test:

"Do you want a CDL-A? YES NO (Circle One)"

Now remember, if for any reason, you are unable to complete your 1 year contract with us, to reimburse us for your high-end training that will guarantee you employment with any company you want to work with, as long as it's us, we will come to your home, and find ways to handicap your children.

Now then, Great to have you back at what will be your "Home Terminal" we call it that, cause you're likely to die here. Boy do we have a trainer/ Mentor for you! This is Bob. Bob started here about 6 months ago, because Trucking is among the one of the best careers for a sociopathic pedophile. Bob want's more money, but doesn't want to actually work more, So.. Mentoring, is an obvious solution! We're gonna have you move into Bob's six-foot by three-foot home for 6 weeks! won't that be fun! In that six weeks, you'll be entertained by Bob's Greatest Hits, Including:

"Git yer food off of my poop-bucket!"

"I can drive for 16 hours.. ain't been busted yet!"

"You just write your logs the way I tell you to write your logs!"

"You know what your problem is? I'll tell you..."

"Take a look at this zit on my back, will ya?"

After the six weeks of fun and frolicing with Bob, you're ready to be on your own! Meet your Manager!! Your manager has plenty of work for you, but if you balk, because you've only seen home 1 day in the last 11 weeks, You are instantly placed on

"Manager's short list of drivers he plans on routing into a toxic cloud created by Bob"

But, things will start looking up, if you can suffer through the next two weeks of your Manager only sending you out on 400 miles a week.

and, if you don't make it, you're just another statistic, another ungrateful snob.

Do you think the Government, State, etc, help trucking companies (other than tax breaks) being if goods aren't shipped the economy would be affected?

Ahh, the tag-team of B and Scare is at it again.

I'm sure the companies around here aren't giving me a second thought. This is because they know, as do I, that no matter what we post, there will always be a supply of so-called "witless" drivers to fill their seats. There always has been and always will be.

I am but a mosquito to the trucking industry. Nobody is sneaking up behind me, so relax.

I've noticed one thing about you guys, Burky and Scare. Do you guys drive locally? Do you work inside some company? It must be one or the other. It seems when I post here, you guys are quick to respond, as in within an hour or two, especially if I post during the day (business hours). It's like you're following me around like little puppy dogs. Am I going to have to become a moderator to find out the truth about you guys, or are you gonna come clean? Are you gonna do like you did last time and go whine to Cybergal within minutes after I post this, Scare? Again, my opinion differs from yours, so I'm sure you'll try to get me censored, just like many a flag-waver would do.

Check this out, #######. When I drove OTR, I never had time to log onto the internet but maybe once every 2-3 days. You guys, though....You guys seem to be sitting in front of computers just waiting to pounce, boy. How much time do you spend in front of of those computers waiting on my ###? Don't you have better things to do on the job?

Well, considering I own you guys, what gives? It's obvious you don't drive OTR. I guess you COULD be on dedicated runs, but......

Surely you know you're not going to scare me off.
