International paystar 5000s 9 speed deep reduction transmission.
Trying to upshift say from 6th to 7th itll act like there is a wall in font of the gear. Sometimes if I clutch it just a little bit itll pop in without problems. Other times itll pop in and start grinding. Rpm and road speed is the same.

Only have this problem with the Paystars, The Macks and s series Internationals with the same transmission shift just fine.

Guessing the forks and rails are worn enough that you’re not getting the 6th fork completely back to neutral and that won’t let the 7th fork move because of how things are interlocked (on purpose)
Try squareing the corner as you come out of sixth and over to the next gate instead of going diagonal.
But maybe your not naming the gears the same as i am in which case what I said is meaningless.

Basically just a h pattern 8 speed, left and down is lo/lo lo then 1 through 8.

So 6th is high range and back and 7th is to the right and up.

The shift tower is definatly worn, In neutral can twist the shift lever about 1/4 inch back and fourth. In gear the slop is about 3 inches side to side.

We’re on the same page then
Try coming fully forward to the neutral position before moving over to 7th

Sounds like a sticky shift rail.
