I guess if you use a big enough cheater bar or a torque multiplier I suppose, but anyone doing that really doesn't need to be working on a differential anyway. A pinion nut needs to be torqued to spec due to proper bearing preload on the bearings and spacers.
What model rearend?Jubal Early Times and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Blue loctite and send it with a 3/4" gun.

I doubt it. Transmission yoke on mine has came loose twice. I have a new nut, that’s supposed to be an upgrade. Torques to 750, instead of 500 ft lbs. That’s a lot of torque. About what a 1” gun will do from what I’ve gathered, even though the gun may be rated at 1200 or 1400, that’s not an accurate rating for tightening. Rears probably being tougher than the trans. I doubt it can be hurt.

@Rideandrepair , exactly right! That's something that always amazed me. People talk about a lug tightens to around 450-550ft.lb. and a pinion nut make be close to the same required torque, and they're big impact can do an advertised 1200 ft.lb.
They never take into consideration that the diameter of the nut they are trying to tighten to said torque. The 33mm lug nut verses the 2-3/4 pinion nut is going to change just what kinda torque that impacts will actually be able to hammer it down due to the actual size of the fastener.Jubal Early Times and Rideandrepair Thank this.
