Pitch black, no cell coverage, no shoulder, 13°f, Peaches decides now is a good time to quit making air..Down about 100psi, begin hearing air rushing out from under the hood..
No where to stop, I keep her movin' out for the sprawling metropolis of La Junta 70 miles up ahead, all the while watch'n my precious air psi slip away..
Little over an hour of this my nerves are racked, we're down to 60 psi, truck is getting squirrelly as the bags go down & the impending doom of the FLD low air buzzer is causing a "mild" case of insanity..(Jimmy fock'n 2Lane & anyone who's ever turned the ignition of an FLD knows this dreadful sound all too well)
I've run this road once before, so I know there is shoulder just before a 90° hard lefthand corner at the bottom of about a 3% grade into town.
Got 1, maybe 2 brake applications before the knobs pop out.
M11 jakes make alot of noise through straight pipes, but aren't very effective being pushed by 74k lb. (Alfalfa guy missed the mark & loaded me light) Probably woke half the town, but got er down to the basement on the jakes, & safely out of harms way onto a wide shoulder....

Seems the drier froze up, & discharge line had an ice blockage in a bend 8" or so from the drier. Well this popped the head gasket the compressor. Just so happens I'm toting around a reman Holset SS296E under the bunk..
Couldn't manage a full swap on the roadside with lack of tools, or confidence for that matter..lol
Swapped the head & gasket from the reman unit (didn't want to tear the gasket at below freezing temp, & was stuck to bottom of new head)
Cleared out the blockage in the discharge line, but unable to clear drier so just bypassed it directly into the wet tank..
Far from perfect, but kept on schedule.. The cold finds flaws fast..
Most of the gasket I scraped off before the pic. That my gloved finger holding up the head, but you can see where she let go from the weep

You prolly don't know this.. but if you turn your heater to defrost it'll turn on a heating element in the dryer. At least it did in a few of the trucks I've driven over the years.singlescrewshaker, CAXPT, thatsright and 7 others Thank this.

Folks public service announcement. I have seen enough. Most of you know my stance on extended oil changes on trucks. Ill say it now and will take the hit. If you have a modern vehicle with a closed PVC system and direct injection. Better be changing your oil sooner than the manufacturer recommendations. 3-5k is more important than ever.

Need some advice from the brains here on #5.
Picked up a gently used heavy bag. Thing probably weighs about 120 lbs. How should a guy go about hanging it up? It came with a threaded eyebolt for going into wood, maybe 5/16" or 3/8" but I don't know how well that will stand up being threaded into the bottom of a floor joist after I beat on the bag for 20 minutes a night.jamespmack, singlescrewshaker, Brettj3876 and 8 others Thank this.
