Can you go elsewhere for the Medical Examination (new driver)

I had my medical before I started with Swift. They did review it, but accepted it and didn't make me get another one from one of 'their' places.

 

Most companies require you to use their doctor. But ask your recruiter.

 

I did my training with Roehl back in 2011. Back then, they required you to go to their doctor for the DOT physical.

 

They will most likely want you to go through their doctor because it will be more cost effective, unless you are footing the bill for your own physical then maybe something can happen.

Some companies do and some companies don’t. Usually the bigger companies have their own doctor and to be honest with you they’re usually a little bit more lax than going to like a clinic on your own. At least that’s been what I found. When I first got into trucking I saw the nurses testing new drivers blood pressure like 15 times until they got the reading they wanted. Lol even coaching them to lay back and relax in a dark room for 20 or 30 minutes. Telling them to come back the next day and not have their coffee. Lol
But here’s the thing, some trucking companies are so cheap they’ll just tell you to go get your own and you have to pay for it. And it literally is because they don’t wanna pay for it. So that’s not a good thing either because if they’re that cheap with that they’re gonna be that cheap with other things.

 

Will depend on the carrier.
I had my examination by my own doc, then followed up at DOT examiner, using data supplied by my doc.

Carrier still did their own.

The advantage of using own doc first is that any potential surprise is then covered; and any required affidavits done.

in other words you will know for sure if something will prevent you from driving and whether there is a remedy for it.

In my case, carrier doc took documents from my doc, and was happy to do so. Made their job easier.

So long winded answer—go see your own doc. But expect to be checked again.
