Actually, the Federal Government does feel OTR drivers should get paid simply for being away from home---that's why there's the $59- p/day per diem.

Also, there are plenty of other jobs--most of them managerial-- where the p/hr wage would be calculated to be pitiful when actual work is tabulated. When I taught school, I graded papers evenings and weekends, after a long day managing the kids, for example.

On the other hand, that $800- p/wk seems sort of high to me. Do that calculation based upon the take home pay of $350 a lot of companies truthfully dole out!

Let me see here... 90 hours total away from house this week.

    I only made $750...#### !!

I actually worked 39 hours. Not bad in my neck of the woods.

as I've mentioned before, this is how newbies BS themselves into thinking they make the big bucks. $22.10 an hour for driving and $0 an hour for the rest of the time. how many hours do you actually put in the job each week (that's the time you go on duty, until you go off duty each day.) and what does your weekly pay check look like? you might think you're making $22 an hour, but if you're working 100 hours a week, and only getting 1,200 miles.....

you drive a truck because you can't spell? well, I don't know about that. but I'm sure you're one genuine, steel belted, gear jammin' rig jockey as you suggest in your last sentence, having an entire week or so of experience under your big shiny brass belt buckle! LOL

What an ignorant first post. I'd be hard pressed to find another job where i can sit on my butt all day and clear $800/week. Ive got a friend who has 3yrs OTR and clears no less than $1000/week. He is also home every weekend. Mind you, this is all made from sitting on your butt.

I had a job making $15/hr local. It's some of the toughest labor Ive done. At 40hrs/week I cleared just under $500. So lets see........do I wanna bust me arse every day for the rest of my life for chump change, or sit on my butt and make some decent dollars? You tell me. When i get decent experience I can come home and land a good home every night driving gig and be set.

That's exactly what I'm telling you. I ran 1850 miles this week. :D

I have 39 TOTAL on duty hours on my logs...line 3 and 4.

I did spend some time in the drivers lounge while my truck was serviced. I do spend my down time reading when I have a chance, or playing video games.

so, might I assume you're a typical American who likes to sit on his butt???

so you were driving 47 MPH? that time you spent waiting to have your truck serviced, reading, and playing video games was time wasted. you need to add all that time to that 39 hours. you have 10 hours mandatory down time each day. all the other hours each day that aren't spent doing something productive are uncompensated, wasted hours.
