    Update: after removing 3 buckets of oil and it smells like diesel, I don't see any metal in the oil pan.

    What about under the rocker covers? That sounds like valve train.

    I'd yank the valve covers and take a look. If there's diesel in the pan I wonder if an injector broke? Maybe a rocker snapped and took out an injector?

    C12’s are notorious for rocker issues . Gotta keep up on valve adjustment or something breaks .. mine has a old PP file in it and bigger turbo it walks all over our DD15’s set at 515 hp . I’m within .5 mpg every quarter . Best little engine I ever drove other than jake brake being a bit weaker .
