Can a company allocate more work than is possible?

Hi all, first post on this forum. I'm looking for some guidance on an issue I have.

I drive a bin lorry using a a tacho on domestic hours. For about 4 months now I have have been working this run. I have 2 loaders making us a 3 man crew. We do a set run so the route is the same all the time.

It takes 3 men 9 hours to complete the days work. The company have now said we are going to have to do the run as a 2 man crew. It seems to me if it takes 3 men 9 hours it will take 2 men 12 hours minimum. I worked that out on the basis of 3 hours per man.

The company has also now said overtime is compulsory.
It seems to me just because they take a man off the crew they can't call it overtime. Surely if my truck breaks down and I do an hour's extra work that's overtime.

Overtime is not a transport planner routing more work than is possible to complete in one day. It seems on demestic hours I can only have a tacho in for 11 hours anyway.
We were told our working hours are be 0615 to 1515.

Anyway the question is am I right in saying no. I'm planing on bringing my truck back to the depot at the same time as always so I can clock out at 1515 I'm happy to work as a 2 man crew so long as I'm not expected to do the work of 3 men

Surely the company is under some legal requirement not to issue more work than is possible.

Lol, quite right I simply picked 2 forums to ask my question. I am in the UK working under domestic hours rule.

 

This is exactly my attitude, I know that I'm right, just trying to find confirmation some where.
