What is an owner operator?

    I see what you’re saying–and agree–about the different prestige levels, but to say I’m not an O/O at all is taking it too far, which is what this guy was saying to me and caused me to create this thread.

    What he said was irrelavent.
    As far as I am concerned there's nothing noble about being an owner operator in the large scope of things. To general population, a truck driver or an owner operator are hardly any different in terms of a social status.
    The difference is not so much in nobility but ways of convenience of how to make a living.
    For example, I don't know how easy it would become for me to go and work for someone else after 6 years of calling my own shots. I am afraid there could be some issues about my insubordination. The notion that someone could be my boss and telling me what to do would be very difficult to settle with.
