This isn't news, just ticked me off for some reason so I thought I would share. For most of us running spot market we're used to it but when you consider yourself a businessman running in to these lousy agents gets old.

I email on an available load posted within $100 or so of what I would run it for.

Quick response, load specifics, bad news for me is that it is a grocery DC delivery which I never do unless completely desperate.

I respond that I need $50 per hour detention after 2 for the delivery, I'm ok if the pick up isn't real quick because I'll be ready for a break but of course I don't mention that.

She emails back that she can't adjust the rate. We didn't even discuss rate yet. She didn't offer what her standard detention rate is, if any at all.

I respond that I didn't ask her to adjust anything yet and BTW how can you possibly sell loads for a living if you can't adjust the rate. (Yes, I know how this works but I'm sort of baiting her because I can already tell she's a worthless phone holder).

She responds that she doesn't need to deal with all of these 'extras' when she can cover the load so easily and cheaply these days. Yes, she actually said that. Extras? Detention is now an extra?

I had a hard time not responding and really letting her have it.

    Moving right along......

If she can cover easily and cheaply why does she still have the load?

It does get old... I sometimes wonder how these brokers get access to their frieght... Because i cant actually believe the stupidity i hear from most of them, is the same stupidity they've approached a customer with, to help move their freight... There must be some competance somewhere in a brokerage but it seems it ends with the person actually trying to move ####.

I had one call me asking to „help him with a load” that he couldn’t fit on a hotshot and he already accepted the load from a customer (I have an actual tractor trailer).

I was like, I’m sorry brother, you can always ask your customer to adjust the rate or idk, maybe send 2 hotahots (on top of each other I thought thh, but didn’t say that). In any case, my quote to do this is: $xxx.

There are so many new brokerages popping up on DAT it's almost laughable. I'm pretty sure I will be putting my subscription on hold as soon as tmrw since I already paid for November. Reading the reviews can be both entertaining & depressing, especially when you see something that works nicely into your schedule, until you read the reviews of the broker. "hmm, is it worth the risk?" most likely not. Other brokerage load boards have nowhere near the amount of loads they had over a year ago. I don't run spot freight very often but the few loads I either bid on or inquired about in 2022 were all shot down, either by a return email saying FIRM in their price, or "Try lowering your bid for a better chance of winning this load"...uhhh, no thanks. My equipment is paid for but my time is still very valuable. I don't give away my time for anybody. And much like @86scotty said to where he had a hard time not responding, yes, I've felt the same way, so I go with the silence is golden factor. I guess it's role reversal these days as the brokers are riding the gravy train, so I'll just sit back and watch from a distance, things can rot on the dock as far as I'm concerned.

Yes its unfortunately a very sad sad world out there, considering we are living in a so called "Christian" society what ever happened to the Golden rule you know the one about doing unto others as you wish done onto you? In the end the poor old trucker cops all the blame as you've got to blame someone right, think the brokers get the best end of the deal all they have to do is find someone who's willing to haul the load dirt cheap, the broker gets a nice chunk of the pie for doing virtually nothing while you the driver take all the risks put up with all the baloney all for peanuts.
