Probably because Loves is building around 40 new stops every year.

As much as people claim they want restaurants if they really wanted restaurants then the ones available to them wouldn’t be closing down.

For the most part, it's the truck drivers that want real restaurants. The 4 wheelers want fast food. Why would a truck stop cater to truckers? Geesh!

If that’s the case then why are all the restaurants shutting down? They should have no problem staying in business since all the drivers want to sit down and eat. I parked at Lisa’s tonight and didn’t feel like cooking in the truck. I went inside and at 6:45 tonight there was myself and two other guys sitting in there eating. So it doesn’t seem like many drivers care if there’s a restaurant or not.

During my 44 years on the road I always ate at a sit down restaurant and never fast food places. It was find a parking spot, complete my log book, head for a shower, change my clothes, enjoy dinner at a sit down restaurant and go to sleep.

The preferred truck stops for me were:
    1- Petro/ Iron Skillet
2- TA/ Country Pride or Buckhorn
3- Flying J/ Their restaurant before Dennys
4- Any Mom & Pop that I knew was great

There never was a closed restaurant before because people wanted to work back then not like today. Drivers were more courteous, polite and cared about each other than today. The truck stops back then had better considerations towards the drivers rather then the corporate greed of today.

I used to eat at Iron Skillet all the time, but that got old. I look for places that have sit down restaurants but there are few to be seen today. I buy my fuel at PFJ, so that makes it difficult to stop twice for that amount of time.

I guess there are 1000 answers for this issue since everyone's situation is different. I think most drivers would most probably prefer to have a sit down in the evening after shut down because of time. Grab something during the day, sit down at night. Personally, I'll take a sit down at least 2 maybe 3 times a day. I probably wouldn't take the time in the mornings to sit down because once I'm up, I'm ready to roll. Grab something & go, But again, everyone is different.
Personally, I look for every sit down restaurant that I can get into, in the 5 states I run in on my route. Lunch & dinner.

Time & the cost of being on the road is the main factor. Most drivers I think want a sit down but because the economy is bass-akwards now, some drivers cook in the truck. They don't eat out of the store except occasionally.
Then you have the push, push, push... run, run, run dispatchers & companies that don't allow time for drivers to stop for a sit down. Fuel, grab & go.

So, I think a lot of drivers want sit downs, but cost, time & administration doesn't always allow it... especially every day.

But again, I'll be in a sit down every time I can get into one (except breakfast usually).

A lot of folks can't manage their time worth a ####. I stop all the time in the middle of the day for lunch, or Breakfast at a sit down place. Especially if my run that day goes past the Boise Stage Stop, Little America, or some place like that, but I'm not taking my break there. Doesn't affect my mileage in the least. I can still do 4000 miles per week, if dispatch cooperates.

My theory about sit down restaurants dying is that a lot more trucks have fridges, microwaves and TV now.
