16 hr Rule

I use a 60 clock. If I am approaching my 14 but have only driven 10 when I certify my exception I will have 1 hour of drive time on my 16.

So yes, the 14 to 16 is flexible in adverse conditions, the 11 is not. However, if you haven't used your eleven in your 14 it will be added to your 16.

You are not wrong, it is just how your ELD is set to show it. When we used Qualcomm it always showed the real drive time left even if that was more than your shift time left. Now that we are using Samstupid if shows the way it did for you and won't show the actual drive time until I activate my 16.

 

Most ELDs I have used only display the clock that will run out first once you start moving. That's why when you first start your day, it only shows 8 hours, because at that point, you will need a 30 minute break before anything else. If sit at a shipper for 4 hours, and only have 5 hours on your 14, but 6 on your 11, the first clock to expire (the 14 hour clock) will display by default, once you start driving again. There are a couple that will show all the clocks while you are driving, but they are the exception.

 

Mine does that too. But when I invoke the 16-hour exception the drive clock changes to reflect my actual driving hours remaining.

 

Yes I used to use the "KISS" principle keep it simple silly, you had 14 hours in which to drive 11 hours, which allows you about 3 hours of rest, refueling, and what ever else one wishes to get up to in those three hours. Yes there was that rule for adverse conditions but I never fully understood it, my thought was if you'd already done 11 hours driving but could not find a place to safely stop you could keep driving, for another 2 hours? Although to do that, I'd imagine one would have to be caught up in a snow storm, tornado, hurricane, or tsunami.

Tap the "Log" button just below where your 4 clocks appear and scroll down, there will be 16 Hour Short Haul listed, tap on that and you can activate it.
