Hello there,
I am looking for some information or someone to point me in the right direction. I have a one way haul from St. Paul MN to Corona, Ca. I have a old 96 Peterbilt, I have seen that CA requires some emissions equipment for older trucks. Is this the case if this will be my one and only trip into CA? First time driving through this state, any info would be greatly appreciated.

IIrc, you can get a 3 day permit if this is a one off trip
-
Is that something that can be purchased at the DMV or with CHP?

Do what most non compliant trucks do. They sneak in during the late night early morning hours thru I-10, I-40 and leave with the same game plan. Scales in Commiefornia don’t enforce CARB. They won’t stop you unless CARB(Blue Vans) are set up and/if they are, it’s usually office hour’s. If your running around during the day in a high truck traffic area, heads up, they been known to set up with local enforcement. There more visible by the ports. Goodluck
Blue jeans, wore out, blairandgretchen and 3 others Thank this. -
If you want to go through the hassle you can get a permit from CARB to go in and out. But if it were me I’d just drive in like everyone else. Plenty of old trucks and glider kits running out there every day.
Blue jeans, nikmirbre, Tall Mike and 5 others Thank this. -

I got a low use permit. I think it was free, but can't remenber. Done all inline, keep miles under 1k per year

I’ve driven to CA every single week almost for a couple years along with many other drivers I know. Not once have any of us been in trouble. I even got inspected at the banning weigh station twice and got stickers both times.
I see a good bit of older trucks go in all the time as well. From what I notice there’s probably 30% of the trucks actually run the banning scale.cke, Tall Mike, Opendeckin and 2 others Thank this. -
If you see a white Dodge pick up with a blue pop up at the scale house, drive on by.
Bean Jr., Diesel Dave, Long FLD and 2 others Thank this. -
Don't worry about it there are plenty of non emission trucks running around out there..
cke, exhausted379, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this.
