I don’t know so much about being a novice as much as just not taking the job very seriously.
Many customers’ security and/or yard jockeys use a CB for communication. How are they to communicate with you, if you don’t have a radio?
To me, it just looks unprofessional, to not have a radio. They’re fairly cheap to buy. When one is in the presence of a situation that requires a radio to communicate, one should have a CB.

I occasionally hear useful info over the CB, but if you really want to talk to people, get your amateur radio license and install an HF ham radio.

It is still has jerks out there to put it lightly. But I have mine for traffic. Its always on, but the volume is down and I turn it up when I need to use it.
-
What's the amateur traffic frequency?
-
backup radios.......they all suddenly get turned on during a traffic backup.

never heard of one on any band..

Drivers are too busy watching movies and playing with their phones to use a CB anymore.
I saw this recently.
Driver had phone attached to the steering wheel with a movie playing.
OLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -
haha nice one, like I’m going to spend money on something that brings me pointless conversation and the same tired jokes to be heard across the country. I got satellite radio for that and Google maps and waze has all the traffic info I need without the bull$hit that comes with the CB
