The FRO transmission is a 10 speed and cannot be converted. Not the best transmission to shift either as many have problems with the single rail shift lid

What is the single rail shift lid?
KH -
The FRO is different from most others because of its single rail shift lid. Basically there are 3 shift forks all assembled on one rail with 2 keys to make the pattern happen. Most common is the 3 rail system where all 3 forks mount seperatly to their own rail. This way is preffered and practically bulletproof.
Most common complaints on the FRO is hard to shift, fussy and notchy shifting. Not all are this way, but some are depending on what updates your model has.
Most common failure in an FRO is the keyway in the single rail breaks leaving you with a wandering shift fork and collar.. if this wandering collar engages while your moving, you go into 2 gears at once causing catastrophic failure. -
Not 100% sure but a technition at a freightliner dealer told me no differance at all strength wise. Just more money for a higher torque rating in case it dose jet tore up.

Roadranger 13 and 18s are not the same and dont belive a 13 can be converted to an 18. The mack 13 and 18 are the same and only need the shift knob changed.
